Western Maine Health has an amazing opportunity for a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP) at Western Maine Pediatrics and our School Based Health Centers. The PNP will work along with providers and the MSAD#17 school nurses to provide health care services to adolescents. School Based Health Centers - The PNP will provide only those health care services for which the practitioner is educationally and clinically prepared, and for which competency has been maintained. Such health care services, for which the practitioner is independently responsible and accountable, include: Assessing and treating acute minor illnesses and injuries; Well Child Checks; evaluating and treating sports injuries; diagnosing and managing concussions through Return to Learn and Return to Activity/Play; diagnosing, working with counselors, and treating simple mental illnesses; and, doing basic procedures.

S/he provides education on a variety of health-related issues focusing on preventive care, anticipatory guidance, risk assessment, and teaching healthy lifestyles. Additional responsibilities include: Supervising a part-time administrative assistant and LCSW/LCPC; co-managing the SBHC budget; and, assisting the school district with creation of policies, procedures and standards of care. Western Maine Pediatrics - Assesses clients, synthesizes and analyzes data, understands and applies nursing principles at an advanced level; provides expert teaching and guidance; works effectively with clients, families and members of the health care team; manages clients# physical and psychosocial health-illness status; utilizes research skills; analyzes multiple sources of data, identifies alternative possibilities as to the nature of a health care problem, and selects appropriate treatment; makes independent decisions in solving complex client care problems; performs acts of diagnosing, prescribing, administering and dispensing therapeutic measures; and recognizes limits of knowledge and experience, plans for situations beyond expertise, consults with or refers to other health care providers as appropriate. Graduate of an approved Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP) training program; currently approved by the Maine Board of Nursing to practice in the advanced practice role.

Certification by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP). The Nurse Practitioner prescribes medications per Board of Nursing and DEA. This position works within the Scope of Practice at all times and follows the Hospital policies and procedures as well as Medical Staff By-Laws and Rules and Regulations.
