Competencies:
Proven ability to work as a team with physicians to coordinate care, asking pertinent questions that are required to manage psychiatric and medical care. Ability to coordinate a program that emphasizes both aspects as equally important in the recovery of the consumer.
Proven ability to work with other healthcare or community agencies to coordinate all aspects of the consumer’s continuum of care, focusing on medical as well as psychiatric needs.
Proven ability to educate staff and consumers about medications and medical conditions that often present themselves in intensive psychiatric settings.
Proven ability to assess consumers and distinguish whether presenting symptoms are psychiatric or possibly a psychiatric presentation of medical concerns that require intervention.
In-depth knowledge of medications:medical – purpose for usage, administration details, possible complications, side effects, interactions; psychotropic – purpose for usage, administration details, possible complications, side effects, interactions.
In-depth knowledge of physiological responses to medical illnesses and treatment and psychiatric illnesses and treatment.
Proven superior psychotherapeutic skills.
Excellent ability to work with other program coordinators in a cooperative, supportive manner.
Must possess effective understanding of training techniques used with the SMI population.
Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Must be able to organize and prioritize a variety of tasks.
Must possess excellent ability to comprehend and maintain program standards.
Must be able to effectively manage, organize and schedule staff to ensure a successful residential program and services.
Must be knowledgeable of cultural diversity.
Ability to develop and implement a comprehensive treatment plan and ensure implementation.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
Monitor documentation for the Clinical Program, to ensure that admission assessments, treatment plans/reviews, group therapy/individual therapy notes, discharge summaries, nursing assessments, daily clinical staff notes, MD assessments and notes, and medication administration are completed appropriately.
Ensure accurate and up-to-date files on all consumers and completion of documentation in a timely manner.
Supervise staff as they identify medical concerns and development of nursing and therapeutic plans to treat and monitor.
Provide collaboration and consultation to community agencies as needed.
Develop a program to provide for the implementation of well coordinated follow-up plans on consumers discharged from the program.
Complete time sheets.
Conduct staff meetings twice per month.
Assume lead role in screening consumers coming into the program.
Conduct intake assessments and group therapy as needed.
Participate in staffing, role modeling for the staff effective ways to manage care problems, coordinating team participation to effectively address concerns.
Ensure that the operation and management of the programs flow smoothly and effectively.
Ensure that all assigned duties are implemented according to IRBH and DMH policies and procedures.
Ensure that all state and Medicaid standards for the program are maintained.
Ensure all safety, fire prevention, and health measures are followed.
Coordinate the transportation of community clients to/from the Clinical Program.
Provide supervision of program staff.
Supervise the nursing staff as they coordinate securing and administering consumers’ medications.
Coordinate security services for the program.
Supervise/assist with scheduling of staff to ensure adequate coverage of each program in the most cost-effective manner, following the staffing requirements.
Ensure that the upkeep of the facility is maintained, communicating concerns for maintenance and repair.
Work with other coordinators to maintain movement through the program, recognizing progressive movement toward independence.
Take an active lead in the development of needed forms and policies, coordinating with other departments.
Promote and maintain a safe, therapeutic environment for consumers, documenting monthly safety checks.
Provide accurate documentation of billable time and service reports in a timely manner.
Complete monthly administrative reports as required (requisitions, on-call, residential reports, meals, etc.).
Develop and maintain MI programming as required by client treatment plans and state / federal guidelines.
Devote 40 hours of work per week to the completion of duties outlined in the job description.More than 40 hours of work per week may be required to meet job responsibilities and deadlines.
Work with Human Resources on all staffing and employee disciplinary issues.Monitor absenteeism incidences or performance problems and implement disciplinary actions in collaboration with HR.
Participate as a MAC trainer, provide MAC supervision, maintain MAS certification (if an RN).
Maintain communication and awareness of current events by reading memos, e-mails, bulletin boards, and communication logs and responding in a timely manner.
Support Organizational Code of Conduct, Standards Compliance, HIPAA and Security Programs by ensuring job tasks are performed in a legal and ethical manner, assessing the work area for non-compliance and notifying the supervisor, manager, Executive Director or designee as appropriate, and maintaining training requirements and understanding that training is a required condition of employment.
Adhere to attendance and punctuality policy by allowing adequate time to arrive, clock-in and assume responsibilities at designated time, adhering to meal and break times and making timely requests for annual leave and reporting the need for sick leave in accordance with policy.
Comply with all standards related to safety and health by maintaining current TB Test, CPR/First Aid, CPI, and by reporting infections and on-the-job injuries in accordance with policy.
Identify opportunities for improving the quality of services provided by the department and the organization.
On-call duties as needed by facility.
Quality Assurance activities.
All other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Supervisor or Executive Director.
Minimum Qualifications:
RN with 2 years’ experience in a Mental Health related field required.
Two years supervisory experience preferred.
Current Alabama driver's license and good driving record as defined by Indian Rivers’ policy.
Must be able to read, write legibly, speak, and comprehend English.

Working Conditions: Works in general office environment and residential facilities; may require long hours. Must have the use of sensory skills to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact. Physical capability to effectively use and operate office related equipment, such as, but not limited to, computer, copier, multi-line phone and fax. Some risk involved in the event of aggressive/out-of-control consumers. Must possess a valid Alabama driver’s license.
