Position Summary: This role is a direct contributor in adhering to, implementing, and enhancing all aspects of the Credit Union’s Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) program, policies and procedures, including BSA, USA PATRIOT Act, Anti-Money Laundering, OFAC, Member Identification, and any other related topic. In addition, the BSA & Security Specialist will also similarly assist with portions of the Credit Union’s Security Program and segments of the Credit Union’s Identity Theft/Red Flags Program.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Activity Monitoring
- Utilizes the Credit Union’s Fraud & Anti-Money Laundering (FRAML) software system and core system to monitor member transactions to identify, track and report on high risk and AML activity in accordance with regulatory expectations, policies and procedures
- Provides analysis to enhance the overall operation and effectiveness of the FRAML software and takes steps to enact their findings in such areas as alert/case management and behavioral indicators
- Compiles data, analyzes and monitors suspicious/fraudulent activity reported from activity reports, keyword searches, ancillary monitoring software, internal SAR reports, law enforcement, other financial institutions, vendors, and subpoenas/court orders; makes recommendations and takes independent or directed action to resolve issues; provides support to employees that report suspicious activity
- Analyzes new account opening documentation for indicators of suspicious activity, performs due diligence risk ratings, reviews beneficial ownership information, completes negative media reviews, and creates cases within the FRAML system accordingly; reviews the high-risk caseload based upon a predetermined schedule to adhere with enhanced due diligence requirements
Regulatory Reporting
- Independently undertakes the preparation of Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs), both initial and recurring, for review and submission by the Fraud & Security Manager or designate; performs SAR research, creates files, and updates and maintains associated high risk case
- Reviews daily system reports, system generated CTRs and branch reports for all cash transactions over $10,000 that require CTR reporting; independently compiles and completes CTRs for review and submission by the Fraud & Security Manager or designate; communicates with staff as required to resolve issues
- Assists in the operation, use and maintenance of the Credit Union’s security equipment and devices; provides support to employees that report security issues; works with vendors to resolve issues as necessary.
• Leads security inspections, completes associated reviews and creates inspection reports for dissemination General Responsibilities • Participates in audits and examinations related to BSA/AML, security and fraud
- Assists in working with local, state and federal law enforcement authorities as directed
- Assists with formally or informally training staff on the Bank Secrecy Act, security and fraud related topics.
Knowledge and Skills:
- High School diploma or GED certificate required; Associate’s degree preferred
- Minimum 2 to 5 years’ experience in Banking Services; knowledge of Verafin AML software and COCC Insight system preferred but not required
- Minimum of 1 to 2 years’ experience in a role that analyzes, interprets, and reports data
- Excellent oral and written communication skills

Physical Requirements:
- Perform primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion and possibly lifting up to 40 lbs.
- Must be capable of climbing / descending stairs in emergency situation.
- Must be able to operate routine office equipment including telephone, copier, facsimile, and calculator.
- Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time.
- Must be able to routinely perform work on computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day, when necessary.
- Must be able to work extended hours whenever required or requested by management.
- Must be able to work after normal business hours whenever required or requested by management.
- Must be capable of regular, reliable and timely attendance.
Working Conditions:
- Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled shared work area with minimal noise.
- Must be able to travel to off-site locations; maintain adequate transportation.
- Must be able to perform job functions independently or with limited supervision and work effectively either on own or as part of a team.
