    Summary

    Tuscaloosa VA Medical Center is seeking a Staff Physician (Primary Care) with proven leadership skills and a vision for the future to join our team of dedicated professionals who provide health care to veterans that is second to none.

    Responsibilities

    Duties include but are not limited: Serve as Staff Physician for the Medicine Service Responsible for insuring quality outcomes of care/service delivery; appropriate access, timeliness, cost effectiveness, and customer satisfaction role models the provision and documentation of quality and cost effective direct patient care that meets/exceeds all clinical guidelines and/or exceeding goals, objectives and performance measures; the outcome of care/service delivery develop and exhibit core competencies: Interpersonal Effectiveness, Customer Service, Systems Thinking, Flexibility/Adaptability, Creative Thinking, Organizational Stewardship, Personal Mastery, and Technical Skills.May require the provision of care using telemedicine techniques and other alternatives to face-to-face modalities.May require the participation in a rotation schedule to serve as the Medical Officer of the Day (MOD) for the facility may require the provision of care at a satellite clinic on an intermittent basis.May require the support of the VA mission of educating future healthcare professionals, by participation in the educational program with affiliated medical and nursing schools. May require formal collaboration with Advance Practice and Associated Health Professionals, such as Nurse Practitioners and Clinical Pharmacy Specialists, etc.

    Qualifications

    To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 12/31/2019.
    Basic Requirements:
    • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
    • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
    • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
    • Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
    • Proficiency in spoken and written English.

    Physical Requirements: Satisfactory physical examination as determined by the Employee Health Unit upon appointment only. See VA Directive and Handbook 5019 ( http://vaww1.va.gov/ohrm/HRLibrary/Dir-Policy.htm ). Functional requirements include moderate lifting (15-44 lbs); moderate carrying (15-44 lbs); walking and standing and standing for 2 to 4 hours; Both legs required; Both eyes required Ability to distinguish basic colors; Ability to distinguish shades of color; ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; (hearing aid permitted).

    Education

    Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP): Authorized This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan reimbursement program within VHA. If selected for this position you must meet specific individual eligibility criteria in accordance with VHA policy 1021 and apply for EDRP within four (4) months of appointment. Final award amount and program start date is determined after review of a complete EDRP application and supporting documentation by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services office.

    Annual leave shall accrue for full-time physicians at the rate of 26 days per leave year (1 day per pay period).
