• Alexander City, AlabamaPerforms diagnostic procedures on various types of specimens utilizing effective quality control measures. Functions in all areas of the laboratory including: chemistry, hematology, immunology, microbiology, urinalysis, and immunohematology. Collects specimens using defined collection guidelines. Operates, maintains, and troubleshoots sophisticated computerized equipment.
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in Chemical or Biological Science. Successful completion of a one-year internship in an approved medical technology training program.
OR
Associate degree and ten years experience. Passed the NCA certifying examination(Requires fulfilling the continuing education requirements of the NCA.)
Without direct supervision, one year experience. With direct supervision, no experienced required.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND/OR REGISTRATIONS:
Registered Medical Technologist by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists or as a clinical laboratory scientist by the National Certifying Agency
EQUIPMENT, TOOLS, WORK AIDS:
Laboratory information system, various diagnostic equipment, centrifuges, and slide stainer
SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Scientific basis for diagnostic tests, sensitivity, specificity, and predictive values for
methods, reference ranges for all ages of patients, and expected deviations in various
disease states. Must be able to distinguish colors.
Must be able to work rapidly with frequent interruptions and time constraints.
