The Dental Assistant is responsible for providing chair-side assistance to Dentist and Dental Director. Dental Assistant is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the clinical areas, including sterilization of instruments, general tidiness, and appropriate disposal of waste. Dental Assistant reports to Dental Director.
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain and run center according to OSHA & HIPAA standards.
- Fosters strong relationships with the teams to ensure a commitment to “patient first” philosophy.
- Helps the dentist complete proper documentation for the patient’s record. This documentation must be an accurate and complete record of each patient’s visit that can be interpreted by a knowledgeable third party.
- Ensures the staff knowledge of proper documentation. Be aware of chart audit findings for your dental center and build your teams knowledge in any area need identified on the chart audit.
- Sets up patient care area properly for procedures prior to seating the patient.
- Greets patients and escorts them to and from the appropriate treatment room.
- Explains the treatment options with patients and parents/legal guardians.
- Obtains and review health histories according to office procedures.
- Provides patient instruction and ensure all patients’ questions are answered thoroughly before they leave, providing demonstrations when necessary.
- Assists the dentist in composing an accurate and complete record, for the patients’ record, that a knowledgeable third party can interpret.
- Sees that records are stored securely and handled in compliance with legal requirements, including the HIPAA privacy and security regulations if applicable.
- Keeps Safety Data Sheet (SDS) Log current (formerly MSDS).
- Provides referral to and from other doctors as instructed by Dentist.
- Supports affirmative action and respects diversity.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- One year certificate from college or technical school preferred
- Dental Assistant certification preferred
- Demonstrates excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Greater than 2 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Knowledge of relevant computer systems, and office related software (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Working conditions are predominately a normal office environment with little to no exposure to environmental hazards.
