Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities / Essential Functions

  • Delivers clinical services to assigned pediatric population at a competent level according to the age and needs of the patient/population. Provides a therapeutic environment, working with the patient, staff and patient’s families as needed.
  • Assesses the developmental, social and physical needs of an assigned pediatric population utilizing various assessment tools and provides appropriate interventions. Interventions include group and individual activities that address the enhancement of adaptive coping, promote development, learning, self-expression and self-regulation skills. Provides appropriate interventions to assist pediatric patients who may require medical procedures.
  • Provides de-escalation and diversional activities to patients experiencing acute psychiatric and behavioral disturbances. Assists with development of individualized incentives and activities that help motivate pediatric patients to participate in the treatment program.
  • Attends select groups and activities on the unit with pediatric patients in order to assist, evaluate and increase rapport with pediatric patients.
  • Collaborates with the physician and treatment team members in the delivery of patient care, utilizing the Child Life process to facilitate the delivery of patient care. Builds and maintains positive, collaborative relationships with interdisciplinary team members, integrating goals and plans to promote optimal patient care, safety, and patient/family satisfaction. Participates in interdisciplinary treatment teams.
  • Documents patient interactions and observations in an accurate and concise manner and in accordance with hospital guidelines.
  • Adheres to policies and procedures and demonstrates practices that ensure a safe environment for patients, visitors, coworkers, and staff.
  • CPR certification.
MOAB/CPI certification.

Qualifications

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Experience Required:

1)Ability to communicate effectively with others 2)Knowledge of child and adolescent social and emotional development. 3)Knowledge of psychiatric illness and the special needs of the pediatric population.

Education:
Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Social Work or related field with a strong background in Child Life, Child Development or Family Studies.
Experience:
Minimum one year experience working with individuals aged four and above in a mental health setting or an equivalent level of education and experience
