**JOB SUMMARY**

Provide technical assistance in the laboratories. Performs laboratory duties to assist technologists, technicians, pathologists assistants and/or pathologists. Handles related equipment including maintenance; cleans work area and stocks supplies. As needed, will assist in reference lab work including packaging, mailing, tracking, and report filing. Expected to train and onboard new employees.Pathology Technicians within the Histology/Gross Laboratory will assist in obtaining biological samples for study and prepares tissues for processing and examination under the direction and supervision of pathologists. May perform complex histological procedures using techniques to gross, embed, perform microtomy, and stain to make tissue slides used for diagnosis. Within the Clinical Laboratory setting, responsibilities include collecting, preparing and processing specimens. Assists in performing laboratory activities and other assigned tasks. Aids in preparing laboratory specimens and supplies. May be responsible for entering laboratory orders and results. Ensures the accuracy and quality of laboratory data in a safe and professional work environment. May be required to perform waived tests and/or phlebotomy.

**POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES**

Adheres to established internal standards and procedures abstracted from Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). Discusses key concepts of normal and pathological anatomy and physiology. Listens and responds to safety inquiries from the patent and/or family. Maintains cleanliness or sterilization of self and objects in order to prevent infections. Participates in collecting and processing specimens (e.g. blood) according to test requests. Understands medical terminology and code of ethics associated with the industry. Works with common health information concepts and terminology.

**DEPARTMENT DETAILS**

Weekdays: Varying PM shifts with start times as early as 13:30 or as late as 15:30. Also the possibility of occasional weekday overnights to cover for PTO. Weekends: Will be placed into an every-fourth weekend rotation (PMs or overnights). The every-fourth weekend rotation does include the possibility of an extra weekend every-other month based on staffing needs Holidays: Two per year On-calls: Five to six on-call weekends per year, varying shifts. This position will float between all three campuses as needed. Salary Based on Experience

**QUALIFICATIONS**

Bachelors degree in Biology or other science related feld required. One year previous laboratory experience preferred.
