Reporting to the Vice President for Student Affairs, the Director of Health Services is responsible for the operation and coordination of direct health care and health education. Administrative duties represent 65% of this position and clinical care of students represents 35% of the position.

Responsibilities (Include but are not limited to)

  • Provides oversight and administration of initial and any ongoing health and vaccine requirements for students in all divisions, as well as for the expanded requirements for School of Pharmacy, Physician Assistant, and other health professions programs
  • Responsible for immunization compliance required by the Department of Health/State of Connecticut
  • In collaboration with the University's business office, manages the administration of the student health insurance for policy requirements
  • Responsible for administration and oversight of Student Health Services records and data management
  • Responsible for clinical diagnosis, treatment and referrals of students
  • Diagnosis, treatment and referrals
  • Creating and managing routine budget and annual capital expenditures
  • Hiring, supervision and evaluation of Student Health Services staff
  • Coordinate exposure management for students
  • Provide oversight of health professions students initial and annual health and vaccine requirements
  • Assists with coordination of appropriate services with Department of Athletics, the Office of Accessibility Services and Academic Services.

Job Requirements:
  • Master's degree in nursing required
  • Certification as a nurse practitioner in adult or family medicine by American Nurses Credentialing Center or American Academy of Nurse Practitioners
  • Current State of Connecticut RN and APRN License required
  • Federal and State licenses for controlled drug prescribing is required
  • Minimum three years of experience as a nurse practitioner
  • Experience with and or an understanding of developmental issues related to students in a higher education setting
  • Ability to communicate and assess health care needs of a diverse coeducational student population
  • Experience in urgent care, school based health clinic, occupational health department or University health service is preferred
  • Excellent oral and written skills and ability to communicate comfortably with students, colleagues, and external constituents
  • Demonstrated ability to handle complex and multiple tasks in a professional and efficient manner
  • Cultural competency to work with diverse student and/or employee population
  • Commitment to the mission of the University of Saint Joseph
  • Physical ability to perform essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
