Inova Stroke and Cerebrovascular Disease Program includes experts from multiple disciplines including emergency medicine, radiology, neurology, pharmacy, critical care, nursing and rehabilitation work closely together to give each patient the best chance at stroke recovery. All five of Inova hospitals have earned The Joint Commission's Gold Seal of ApprovalĀ® for stroke care and operate as Certified Primary Stroke Centers. Our Program offers sophisticated, minimally invasive technology and advanced imaging by interventional neuroradiologists, and cerebrovascular and endovascular surgeons.

We are seeking a full-time Acute Care Advanced Practice Provider (NP or PA) to support the Stroke Program at Inova Fairfax Medical Center. Individual will be responsible for providing acute and follow-up care to stroke patients in accordance with program and regulatory requirements. Specific duties include:
  • Clinical Practice & Management of Care: Provides safe therapeutic care in holistic and systemic way to include the assessment and overall management of care for critically ill patients under the supervision of an MD. Exercises independent judgement in the assessment, diagnosis and initiation of medical processes and procedures in accordance with the appropriate licensure regulations of the Commonwealth of Virginia, and as delineated in the written Scope of Practice/Protocol for Advanced Practice Professional. Prescribes medications in accordance with state guidelines. Patient care duties may include education and research.
  • Teamwork: Communicates effectively and works collaboratively with others. Demonstrates respect for and understanding of other clinical disciplines, and uses an integrated approach to achieve desired patient outcomes.
  • Evidence-based/Best Practice: Utilizes evidenced-based standards, guidelines, and protocols for care delivery. Incorporates data and information to continuously improve care and practice. Participates in Quality/Best Practice initiatives by utilizing standards and guidelines for cost-effective care delivery in order to continuously improve patient care and enhance outcomes.
  • Professional Development: Ensures improvements in practice settings by assuming responsibility for self-development in life-long learning. Provides direction and guidance to others regarding practice, serves as a resource, and mentor. Leadership skills demonstrated in decision making and problem solving.
Minimum Requirements:
  • Three to five years of clinical experience with acute or primary care management of patient population.
  • Bachelors in Nursing and Masters in Advanced Clinical Practice or graduate of a post masters certificate program for nurse practitioners, or certificate from an education program that is
    accredited by the Council of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs/Schools, American College of Nurse Midwives, American Association of Colleges of Nursing of the National League for
    Nursing; OR Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program and NCCPA Board Certified.
  • BLS, ACLS or ENLS
  • Maintains necessary CME requirements as outlined by certifying board.
  • RN Compact License (depending on State of primary residence) and a license (or eligibility for) as a nurse practitioner in the Commonwealth of Virginia AND a "Prescriptive Authority for
    Licensed Nurse Practitioners Practice Agreement" signed by sponsoring/supervising physician(s), AND a written "Scope of Practice/Protocol" signed by the supervising physician, AND
    "Prescriptive Authority License" AND "Drug Enforcement Administration License" (if prescribing controlled substances); OR Current Virginia Physician Assistant License.

    Preferred:
    Acute Care experience.
    Neurology experience
    SCRN certification
