DENTAL DIRECTOR

Dental Clinics North, a provider of the highest quality public dental health services in Michigan, is seeking a Dental Director to oversee the provision of oral health expertise for its eight clinics located in beautiful Northern Michigan. This position is a part-time position consisting of two days per week of administrative duties; there are opportunities for providing clinical services to expand to full-time employment.
The Dental Director will provide oversight of clinical practices, regulatory compliance, safety and standards of care, and shall collaborate closely with the Director of Clinical Operations in administrative practices relevant to the clinic operations. The Dental Director directly supervises the Dentists and Hygienists and provides clinical direction to Office Managers and all clinic staff with frequent face to face contact in the clinics. The Dental Director also lends expertise to oral health services and initiatives of the health department and collaborates to manage population health initiatives. The Dental Director is responsible for the development of oral health policies and procedures, establishment and monitoring of clinical standards and guidelines, oversight of strategic directions, continuous quality improvement, coordination of compliance and safety activities, as well as improvement in disease management services and programs, patient satisfaction, and outcomes research. Role priorities include: Strategic Planning, Process and Quality Improvement, Provider and Employee Relations.

Responsibilities

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate to establish and provide day-to-day leadership, motivation, and management for a high performing clinical team that reflects the mission, culture, core values, and strategic plan of Dental Clinics North. Provide balanced leadership reflective of patient satisfaction, clinical care, and organizational sustainability.
  • Provide leadership to deliver high quality dentistry consistent with the values of Dental Clinics North.
  • Develop, maintain and implement formal clinic policies and procedures consistent with the standards of care; guide dentists and professional staff to deliver care consistent with the standards of care;
  • Support the recruitment and retention of dentists;
  • Provide feedback in the interview process and orient and lead the training of new clinical staff;
  • Develops, implements and monitors plans for clinical employee development, including orientation, continuing education and training, and performance evaluation processes which encourage continual growth and improvement in the quality of care provided at Dental Clinics North.
  • Contributes dental expertise to the development of oral health services within the health department and collaborating entities including both clinical and population health initiatives.
  • Participate in board and management meetings and annual planning processes to support DCN objectives and implementation of the strategic plan;
  • Collaborate with the Director of Operations and other clinic management to ensure smooth operation of clinic and programs including staffing and patient visit ratios, formulary, scheduling, cost-benefit of programs; advise on facilities and equipment purchases and repairs;
  • Acts as a dental liaison with community dentists, dental institutions and organizations ensuring that, whenever feasible, they have an opportunity to be involved in the development and/or implementation of public health programs.
  • Represents Dental Clinics North, advocates for the needs of the community, and affects policy development through contacts and whenever possible, participates with other health and human services professionals, agencies and groups on a local, state and national level.
  • Maintains knowledge and understanding of current research, best practices, evidence-based models, and standards of care.
  • Oversees the implementation of strategic directions for oral health, dental disease management, and related services, including database development, outcomes analysis, case management and population management.
  • Assesses the needs of the clinic population and community by analyzing data sources, such as demographic, employment and health care access and utilization data as well as input from other agencies and citizens.
  • Participates in agency planning, issue identification, policy development and implementation of short and long term direction for Dental Clinics North.
  • Provides clinical expertise in the institutional quality improvement process.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with academic institutions for the purposes of mutually beneficial collaboration.
  • Render clinical care to patients as scheduled and mutually agreed upon.
  • Keeps abreast of current and future trends in the delivery of dental health care and welfare at the state and federal level.
  • Oversee the development of marketing and educational materials for oral health services and population health initiatives.
  • Work collaboratively with Health Department leadership to ensure a strong partnership with Dental Clinics North, and promote a seamless, comprehensive approach to patient care.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

  • DDS or DMD before employment required
  • Certificate in Public Health within three years of employment required

  • Clarity and accuracy of writing and verbal presentation and interpersonal communication skills;
  • Detail oriented. Effective organizational skills. Meets timetables. Successful working in a fast paced situation and is self-directed, decisive, and efficient with minimal supervision;
  • Desire to expand knowledge from both a clinical and administrative perspective, including management and leadership skills;
