Director, Hospital/Nursing Education

Under the direction of the Chief Nursing Officer, and in collaboration with the managers/directors of hospital wide departments and services, The Director, Hospital/Nursing Education is responsible for specific staff orientation; initial and continued competency including ACLS, PALS, CPI, etc; continuing education activities; and quality improvement activities for the hospital. Works across the entities of Medical West by providing staff development expertise as an educator, consultant, facilitator, change agent, leader, and champion of evidenced-based practice. Serves as a role model for professional behavior and is instrumental in creating a professional nursing climate within Medical West to meet the needs of the diverse units. Supports the development of the bedside nurse, and fosters empowerment through knowledge to achieve excellence through the delivery of evidenced based nursing practice. This occurs through the facilitation of the educational process through assessment, development, planning, implementation and evaluation of competency assessment, continuing education, and leadership development.

Required Skills

Required Experience
Must be a Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing with a current license to practice professional nursing as a Registered Nurse in the State of Alabama. Bachelors of Science Degree in Nursing required; MSN preferred. Must have a minimum of five years of recent clinical experience, three of which must be in an acute care setting; experience in nursing/hospital education preferred. Experience with Electronic Health Record required. BLS is required. BLS must be renewed per BLS guidelines and up to date. ACLS and PALS certification required; recertifies every two years as required; instructor status completed within one year or less (based on availability of instructor courses). CPI completed within 6 months of hire. Experience with research review and ability to determine validity and reliability of studies used in evidenced based practice and synthesize results and practice implications desired.
