SCHOOL MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELOR

The School Mental Health Counselor position will provide emotional support and foster a safe and successful learning environment for students from elementary school to high school levels. The primary focus will be on assisting students social and emotional well-being that fosters personal and academic success. The School Mental Health Counselor will work with the administrative team to coordinate, facilitate, and implement mental health services throughout the Payette and Fruitland School District.

QUALIFICATIONS

Licensed in the state of Idaho as LMSW, LCSW, LPC, LCPC, LMFT or school counselor.

Experienced in counseling children of diverse ages preferred

Strong facilitation, coaching, conflict resolution and problem solving skills

Experience in the use of technology and maintain effective assessments, service plans, and notes.

Demonstrated skills in written and verbal communication

Demonstrated understanding and appreciation of diversity

Knowledge of and experience with mediation and conflict resolution

Ability to follow HIPPA policies, FERPA policies, Board of Education policies, School Policies, and Agency Policies.

A high level of organizational skills and initiative.

Strong communication skills. Ability to facilitate small groups and provide psychosocial education about topics specifically related to students of all ages.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The School Counselor - Mental Health Support position will work closely with the administrative/faculty to do the following:

Receive referrals, contact parents, scheduling, and maintain follow up with parents are school staff as needed.

Perform Mental Health assessment, create service plan, and maintain progress notes.

Provide individual mental health counseling

Provide education (prevention and awareness via classes/presentation on topics such as anger/stress management, cyber safety, bullying, etc.)

Work with school counselor faculty to identify needs in the school and develop programs as needed. i.e. peer support, interventions for truancy

Provide crisis assistance (i.e. family death)

Provide mental health resources Liaison to/for community resources

Provide small group mental health counseling (i.e. anger/stress management, social skills, self esteem, grief, relationships, etc.)

Address mental health and mental illness: Address risky behaviors (i.e. alcohol/drug use), depression and anxiety (i.e. suicide ideation), abuse (i.e. physical, emotional, sexual)

May provide some academic counseling duties and other duties specific to building needs, if time permits

Provide resources or referrals as needed.

Pay: $25.00 to $30.00 per hour dependent on Licensure level and experience.
