The primary purpose of the Med Tech position is to assist in the administering of medications to residents as ordered by the attending physician, under the direction of the attending physician, the nurse consultant, and the Director of Clinical Services. The administration of medications shall be in accordance with established nursing standards, the policies, procedures, and practices of the community, and the requirements of the state. In addition you will provide direct hands on care in accordance with the resident’s service plan and according to company policies and procedures, and as may be directed by your supervisor.
Delegation of Authority
As a Med Tech, you are delegated the administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability necessary for carrying out your assigned duties.

Education
High school graduate or equivalent.
Experience
One year previous assisted living/nursing experience with direct resident care is preferred but not required. Must receive required medication training from RN, with observation and evaluation of ability to perform safe medication and treatment administration documented.
Specific Requirements
Must be able to read, write speak, and understand the English language.
Must be capable of understanding written and oral orders.
Must be able to respond appropriately to emergency situations.
Must be 18 years of age or older.
Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age-related needs of the residents served.
Must be a supportive team member, contribute to and be an example of team work and team concept.
Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public.
Must possess the ability and willingness to work harmoniously with other personnel, promote team work and keep team members informed of changes in resident care.
Must have patience, tact, cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as the willingness to handle difficult residents.
Must be willing to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing caregiving practices.
Must be able to relate information concerning resident’s condition and ability to notice change and report to supervisor.
Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace.
Other duties may be assigned.
Physical and Sensory Requirements

Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
Must be able to speak and write the English language in an understanding manner.
Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of the position can be fully met.
Must function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel, and support agencies.
Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times hostile people within the community.
May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.
Working Conditions
Works throughout the community area (i.e., resident’s rooms, bathrooms, activity areas etc.)
Moves intermittently during working hours.
Is subject to frequent interruptions.
Is involved with residents, family members, personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc., under all conditions/circumstances.
Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, personnel, and visitors.
Works beyond normal working hours and on weekends and holidays, and in other positions temporarily, when necessary.
Is subject to call-back during emergency conditions (e.g., severe weather, evacuation, post-disaster, etc.).
Attends and participates in continuing educational programs.
Is subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including TB and the AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses.
Communicates with the other health care staff and department personnel.
Maintains a liaison with the residents, their families, support personnel, etc., to assure that the residents’ needs are continually met.
