Yancey School of Nursing is accepting applications for the adjunct faculty pool. Adjunct faculty assignments are made according to program needs and instructor availability.
Job Summary:
This faculty position has teaching responsibilities within the School of Nursing, which may include online and onsite didactic and clinical courses in all degree programs.
Reporting Relationship:
The adjunct nurse faculty reports to the program coordinator(s) with administrative oversight of degree programs in which the faculty member has teaching responsibilities. The adjunct nurse faculty works closely with students, other nursing faculty, and staff.
Education and Experience:
A master’s degree in nursing is required. Advanced practice nursing certification is required to teach in the MSN program. An earned doctorate in nursing or a related discipline is preferred. Educational preparation in the application of teaching and learning principles in adult and online learning, including curriculum development and implementation, is required.
At least two years of experience as a registered nurse within the immediate past five years is required. At least one year of experience as an APRN is required to teach in the MSN program.
Licensure:
A temporary work permit or a current, active, unencumbered license or privilege to practice as a registered nurse in the Commonwealth of Kentucky is required. Adjunct nurse faculty teaching online who will not physically practice in Kentucky must hold an unencumbered license to practice as a registered nurse and/or nurse practitioner in their primary state of residence and/or the state of the student’s clinical site.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The adjunct nurse faculty has the following responsibilities and authorities:
1. Teach, guide, and evaluate nursing students in didactic courses and clinical experiences.
2. Assist in developing, instructing, evaluating, and revising nursing courses and clinical experiences to enhance educational quality and ensure congruency with YSN curriculum and accreditation standards.
3. Assist in preparing students for practice consistent with the scope and level of the degree program.
4. Establish student/faculty ratio in the clinical practice experience based on Kentucky Board of Nursing criteria.
5. Ensure that YSN academic programs comply with all Board of Nursing regulations and standards of accreditation.
6. Maintain availability to students outside of scheduled classes.
7. Maintain clinical competencies relevant to assigned nursing course(s).
8. Participate in YSN governance and in the ongoing efforts to improve quality.
9. Participate in the evaluation of the YSN budget.
10.Maintain compliance with all policies, rules, and regulations included in the Kentucky Christian University Faculty Handbook, Yancey School of Nursing Policies, and KCU Way.
11. Additional duties that may be required or assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Individuals must possess the following knowledge, skills and/or abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
1. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
2. Ability to compute rates, percentages, and ratios.
3. Ability to read and comprehend detailed instructions, correspondence, memos, budget reports, audit reports, state licensing forms, evaluation forms and assessments, professional journals, technical procedures, various information reporting forms, and papers.
4. Ability to clearly write complex correspondence, memos, and reports.
5. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small or large group situations personally, over the telephone, by email, and through the use of virtual technologies.
6. Ability to understand and carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
7. Ability to define problems, evaluate, and make independent decisions based on experience and knowledge with minimal supervision.
8. Ability to use computer technology at least at an elementary to intermediate level.
9. Sufficient manual dexterity in at least one hand to be able to operate all electronic and computer equipment and manually complete paperwork such as signing completed reports.
10. Ability to grasp and lift or otherwise move goods weighing up to 10 pounds. At times, folders and other records must be filed.
11. Ability to learn and perform essential job functions accurately with minimal direct supervision, within three (3) months after employee begins work.
12. Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.
Other Ergonomic Requirements:
Current institutional operations and building designs ordinarily require the individual to sit, stand, reach, bend, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, and perform similar physical functions while doing general office tasks. All individuals are required to be able to perform these movements without significant risk of injury, or to otherwise demonstrate or explain how they can perform the essential functions listed above.
Conditions of Employment:
1. The successful candidate shall enthusiastically support the University’s tenets of faith and demonstrate spiritual maturity.
2. Contracted employee. Appointment length varies with need.
3. Salary range: Based on credentials and professional experience.
