Job Description

The Women’s Crisis Center is seeking a Crisis Intervention Specialist for our Covington Kentucky Outreach Center. The Women’s Crisis Center is a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting victims of domestic violence and sexual abuse.

Hours: Monday-Friday 12:00pm-8:00pm

Under the supervision of the Outreach Coordinator, our specialists provide a full range of case management and crisis intervention to victims of crime with a special focus on victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence and stalking to assist victims to work towards safety and self-sufficiency.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide case management services addressing financial/housing needs of the clients.

Applies Kentucky Coalition Against Domestic Violence (KCADV) Member Service Standards and the Kentucky Association of Sexual Assault Programs (KASAP) Standards for rape survivors.

  • Assist clients in exploring options.
  • Identify client needs
  • Provide information regarding available community resources.
  • Connect client with needed resources, including long-term counseling services.
  • Follow-up with client and assisting community resources.

Provide crisis intervention, legal and medical advocacy and crisis counseling services to clients.

  • Educate clients concerning basic processes of legal system.
  • File complaints, protective orders, compensation claims, etc.
  • Field hotline crisis calls.
  • Ensure safety/confidentiality of clients.
  • Provide crisis counseling to primary and secondary victims
  • Work with victims to assess the impact of the crime

Act as a client advocate to outside agencies, such as schools, courts, housing, and employment.

  • Remain in contact with assisting community organizations.
  • Accompany/transport clients as needed to file complaints, protective orders, to court appearances, interviews with police, employers, housing officials, etc.

Seek out contacts with community agencies and organizations that could provide housing, childcare, and employment services to clients.

  • Actively participate in multidisciplinary teams focused on coordination of services to meet the needs of crime victims
  • Provide job training, assessment, and information to program-eligible persons seeking to enhance their job search skills.
  • Address employment expectations: behavior, dress, attitude, skills, etc.
  • Assess client skills and employment interests.
  • Lead job/pro-vocational groups as needed.
  • Contact employers and temporary agencies to discuss job opportunities and benefits.

Facilitate communication/teamwork among staff.

  • Review and update logs, client files, case review notes.
  • Attend appropriate staff meetings.
  • Cross-train with other employees in other specialty areas.
  • Provide guidance/training to volunteers, students, case aides as appropriate.

Handle related administrative responsibilities.

  • Record/log all client contact(s).
  • Report monthly/quarterly statistics.
  • Maintain necessary supplies.
  • Accept and disseminate donations.
  • Attend related meetings/trainings/workshops.
  • Speak/present trainings and workshops to various community agencies.
  • Successfully complete required training hours.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in social service related field and two years related experience is required. Master's Degree is preferred.
  • Knowledge of/experience with legal/court processes.
  • Ability to work under highly stressful, crisis-oriented situations.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information and maintain high level of confidentiality.
  • Outstanding empathetic and listening skills.
  • Professional oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Advise, inform, interact, interpret, decide, problem-solve.
  • Must be a minimum age of 18

MENTAL/PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES ROUTINELY PERFORMED: Carry, pull, lift, stoop, kneeling, speaking, walking (including climbing steps), considerable car travel.

Potential exposure to workplace violence and infectious diseases.
