The Physical Therapist is responsible to the Rehabilitation Manager for the delivery of patient care through the process of evaluation, planning, and implementation, and other duties as assigned. The Physical Therapist functions within the limits of the State of Missouri Healing Arts Practice Act and performs in a comparable manner to peers with similar training, experience, and circumstances.

Department Specific Skills
· Anodyne Therapy: The therapist/therapy assistant was able to follow policy and procedure for Anodyne therapy. Demonstrates knowledge of complications and use of critical thinking skills in preventing and correcting any problems. Observed consideration of particulars of the patient population served (such as age, developmental and educational levels, disabilities, language skills, gender and cultural/ethnic background) that may influence the performance of skills. Documentation of procedure thorough and specific to patient.
· Balance Testing & Documentation: The therapist/therapy assistant was able to follow policy and procedure for balance testing and documentation. Demonstrates knowledge of complications and use of critical thinking skills in preventing and correcting any problems. Observed consideration of particulars of the patient population served (such as age, developmental and educational levels, disabilities, language skills, gender and cultural/ethnic background) that may influence the performance of skills. Documentation of procedure thorough and specific to patient.
· Electrical Stimulator/Ultrasound Machine: The therapist/therapy assistant was able to follow policy and procedure for use/maintenance of Electrical Stimulator/Ultrasound machine. Demonstrates knowledge of complications and use of critical thinking skills in preventing and correcting any problems. Observed consideration of particulars of the patient population served (such as age, developmental and educational levels, disabilities, language skills, gender and cultural/ethnic background) that may influence the performance of skills. Documentation of procedure thorough and specific to patient.
· Exercise Programs and Protocols: The therapist/therapy assistant was able to follow policy and procedure for providing exercise programs. Demonstrates knowledge of complications and use of critical thinking skills in preventing and correcting any problems. Observed consideration of particulars of the patient population served (such as age, developmental and educational levels, disabilities, language skills, gender and cultural/ethnic background) that may influence the performance of skills. Documentation of procedure thorough and specific to patient.

Minimum Education: BS degree in Physical Therapy from an American Physical Therapy Association and an American Medical Association accredited program.

Minimum Work Experience: Minimum one (1) year experience in an acute care hospital setting. Minimum one (1) year experience in a rehab facility or equivalent serving the adult population. Six (6) months home care experience preferred. Computer skills preferred.



Certifications / Licenses
A valid Driver's license is required.
BLS certification required.
Missouri Physical Therapy Licensure required.



Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
· Consults regularly with patient’s physician regarding plan of treatment, reporting any changes in condition or home environment. Reports all accidents or unusual symptoms of patients to the Rehab or nurse manager. Provides supervision and guidance for PTAs.
· Develops the Physical Therapy plan of care utilizing appropriate established procedures and guidelines. Assesses the patient for appropriate assistive devices and contacts equipment company as needed. Directs and aids patients in therapeutic exercises, gait and balance training, transfer training, prosthesis training, and ambulation. Involves the patient and/or family in the home physical therapy program and discharge planning. Evaluates treatment effectiveness and equipment in accordance with physician’s orders.
· Provides safe, competent, age-appropriate care. Completes documentation within established time frames. Maintains productivity standards by performing duties in an efficient and effective manner. Attends required in-services.



Mental / Physical Requirement
· Ability to lift, transfer, and move patient with weights of 10 ? 200+ pounds and who vary with ability to assist
· Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
· Ability to travel to and navigate around, worksites which may or may not meet ADA requirements.
· Drive: 2-4 hrs. per day
· Mental and Emotional Requirements: Independent discretion/decision making.
