JOB SUMMARY

The Nurse Practitioner obtains comprehensive medical histories and performs physical examinations and assessments; orders appropriate diagnostic tests; analyzes data results of patient examinations and diagnostic tests to correctly diagnose and manage patients; collaborates with physicians, as necessary, to verify diagnosis, identify high-risk situations or alerts to changes in patient’s status and takes appropriate action; provides medical management and/or other interventions for acute and chronic health problems; administers medication; performs procedures according to established methods within the scope of practice; provides appropriate follow-up care and/or referral to other health care resources; provides patient/patient’s family with appropriate education; provides health maintenance and disease management counseling to patients; serves as a liaison and a resource for physicians, health care team members, patients and families; participates in plans for health promotion, prevention and maintenance; completes all charting and documentation and assures appropriate fees/billing codes are used for professional services. Patients cared for include infants, children, adolescents, adults and geriatric.
Nurse Practitioners
Required:
- Certification by a national nursing certifying body in their specific area of nursing practice.
- Nurses who provide nursing care to patients calling from Minnesota will need to be licensed by the Minnesota Board of Nursing or will obtain their Minnesota license within eight (8) weeks from their first day of work (telephone calls from patients calling from Minnesota can not be taken from any nurse unless they have obtained their Minnesota license).
- For those who practice in a Minnesota facility: Licensed by the Minnesota State Board of Nursing.
- Nurse Practitioners must have or be able to obtain DEA registration if required by their supervising Physician within six (6) months from their first day of employment.
- Must complete Altru Health System credentialing process prior to starting practice.
