Job Summary

Under the general guidance of the Director Respiratory Care Services, the technician will demonstrate knowledge in the current concepts of his/her field(s) performing at a level of competence that allows independent thought and action. Technician will provide quality diagnostic and therapeutic pulmonary procedures, EEG services, and will be expected to function as a member of the respiratory therapy team in providing acute respiratory patient care. Is responsible for ongoing performance improvement, personally, divisionally, and corporately. Applies critical thinking to providing care to patients, assuring appropriate care based on patient needs using age specific assessment, knowledge of policies and procedures, and clinical expertise. Populations: Pediatrics, Adolescents, Adult, Geriatrics.

General Responsibilities

  • Consistently produces studies of optimal diagnostic quality through proper machine manipulation, patient positioning, identification and proper processing of PFT procedures, EEG, TCD studies, and Evoked Potential studies.
  • Consistently demonstrates a thorough knowledge of anatomy and physiology of the body part under study, patient care, application of equipment, and specialized techniques for procedures performed.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and competence in Arterial Blood Gas acquisition and analysis. Is competent in acquisition for the radial, brachial, femoral, and arterial line sites.
  • Consistently performs quality therapeutic modalities to ensure achievement of expected outcomes. Understands the function and operation of all equipment necessary to provide all therapeutic modalities, to include troubleshooting, minor repairs, and quality control.
  • Evaluates job procedures for development of improved methods of operation. Assists in the implementation of the improvements
  • Handles clerical responsibilities in an efficient and careful manner. Provides appropriate record of exams performed and medications used and charges are recorded.
  • Appropriately educates patients about procedures to reduce anxiety and gain cooperation. Consistently documents education in chart.
  • Promotes team spirit and cooperation, demonstrating appropriate peer rapport and self-control. Works well independently and as a team member.
  • Self-motivated in performing procedures and managing areas. Collaborates intra-and interdepartmentally to coordinate patient care activities ensuring continuity of care.
Requirements:
WORK EXPERIENCE

  • 2 years’ experience in respiratory therapy required.
  • Registered respiratory therapy to perform Pulmonary Function Testing
  • Flexible, willing to work in non-primary area as need arises.
  • Willing to perform non-traditional functions, remaining within general scope of practice.
  • Self-directed. Evidence of: a) Effective Communications b) Self-Motivation; c) Problem Solving Skills; d) Accountability; e) Flexibility.
EDUCATION

  • Graduate of a Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) approved program for respiratory care.
  • Successful completion of Registry Exam through the National Board of Respiratory Care
  • Current BCLS course completion card required at time of hire.
  • ACLS, PALS, and NRP required; new hires will have 6 months to complete additional required certifications.
