This position has responsibility for providing sterile processing, decontamination, cleaning, assembly, and transportation of medical instrumentation/supplies/equipment and ancillary services to all requesting departments as required, under the supervision of the SSP Manager.
Employee must be able to successfully demonstrate the staff requirements as specified in the specific Care Center's Scope of Service, and complete the Care Center's specific competencies, and meet/exceed the Care Center's standards as identified in the criteria based performance appraisal. Employee must be conscientious with regard to procedures and capable of accepting pressure assignments, clerical assignments, and all duties relative to the department. Employee must be capable of interacting professionally with other employees and departments within the hospital.EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Graduated from an Accredited Surgical Technology program or completed IAHCSMM instrument of patient care certification program for CRCST/CIS or CBSPD.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES & REGISTRATIONS
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and a graduate from an accredited Surgical Technology Program as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or a Sterile Supply CRCST (Certified Registered Central Service Technician)/CIS (Certified Instrument Specialist) or a CBSPD (Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution).
(Note: Candidates transferring from a different facility with experience in performing instrument tech duties will be granted 1 year to obtain the CRCST certification and 1 year to obtain the CIS certification. All CST’s graduating will be granted 1 year to obtain their certification as a CST. All parties must adhere to the requirements. Refer to policy OP4-2029 Orientation-New Employees.)
