Compensation: $40 per day + room and board through summer camp
Position Overview:
This position is responsible for assisting the camp Nurse in comprehensive health care to campers and staff at summer camp, observing regulations of nursing practice and compliance with policies established by Camp Fire Columbia. The Nurse Assistant will remain on-site and on-call for 24-hour coverage to provide nursing, consultation and/or intervention to ill or injured campers and staff, with direction from the Camp Nurse.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Assess individual health needs and provide appropriate interventions for students and staff at camp with direction from the Camp Nurse.
- Uses established procedure to secure, monitor, and administer all medication brought to camp by campers and staff per administrative rules and policies.
- Requests equipment from Camp Fire and maintains an adequately equipped dispensary, and first aid kits.
- Reads and reviews incoming camper and staff health histories prior to their arrival.
- Contacts parents as needed for questions, clarification and communication with campers medical records/issues.
- Provides excellent customer service.
Job Duties:
- Acts as a member overall staff; is encouraged to become part of our community, including having a presence during day & evening programming, eating meals in the dining hall and building relationships with the campers and staff.
- Conducts a health assessment of all campers and staff for communicable disease in cooperation with Camp Nurse.
- Chaperone, as necessary, trips to local hospital or urgent care facility for more serious injuries and ailments.
- Maintains records and reports as required.
- Maintains an outstanding standard of cleanliness in and around the Health Center.
- Assists Camp Nurse in training to camp staff on Health Center procedures, illness and injury prevention, and other topics as necessary.
- Ensures availability to key staff for both structured and more informal, as-needed support.
- Ensures that high expectations and accountability are balanced by fun, compassion, and support.
- Supports the mission, purpose and leadership of Camp Fire and projects a positive image of Camp Fire.
- Attends Camp staff meetings and events, as required.
- Maintains punctual, regular and predictable attendance.
- Works collaboratively in a team environment with a spirit of cooperation.
- Displays excellent communication skills including presentation, persuasion, and negotiation skills required in working with coworkers, volunteers, parents, and contractors; including the ability to communicate effectively and remain calm and courteous under pressure.
- Respectfully takes direction from supervisor.
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
- Two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Pediatric, ER, or camp nursing experience is preferred.
- This position requires a valid Oregon Food Handler’s card and First Aid & CPR certification.
