Job Title: Nurse Practitioner
Reports to: Program Director

Location: Sussex County, DE
Signing bonus: $5,000 signing bonus to be distributed at 6, 9, and 12 months!!

Description of Position
The Nurse Practitioner is an advanced practice registered nurse with a Delaware license, prescriptive authority and experience providing care to individuals with mental health and/or substance use conditions and/or cognitive disabilities. S/he is board certified as a psychiatric clinical nurse specialist with at least a Master’s degree in nursing and will have a Delaware license with prescriptive privileges.

Responsibilities
  • Provides health teaching to assist persons served to achieve satisfying, productive and healthy patterns of living.
  • Provides counseling interventions which assists persons served to improve or regain previous coping abilities, fostering mental health and preventing mental illness and disability.
  • Provides case management to coordinate comprehensive health services and to ensure continuity of care.
  • Provides individual, group and family psychotherapy and other therapeutic treatments to assist persons served in preventing mental illness and disability, treating mental health disorders, and improving mental health status and functional abilities.
  • Has and uses prescriptive authority, procedures, and treatments in accordance with state and federal laws and regulations to treat symptoms of psychiatric illness and improve functional health status.
  • Provides psychopharmacology interventions, which include ordering and interpreting diagnostic and lab tests. Intentionally seeks specific therapeutic responses to psycho-biological interventions/psychoactive medications. Anticipates side effects, safeguards against adverse drug interventions, and is alert for unintended toxic effects. Provides consultation to enhance abilities of other clinicians to provide services for clients and effect change in the system.
  • Provides consultation-liaison activities which focus on the emotional, spiritual, developmental, cognitive, and behavioral responses of persons served who enter any setting of the health care system with actual or potential physiological dysfunction. The consultation may include consultation with nurses and physicians in other specialty areas as well as assessment and recommendations for action focusing on the health care delivery organization.
  • Abides by and enforces all state and federal regulations related to confidentiality, patients’ rights (PM 46), and infection control.
  • Works with other senior staff members to evaluate and resolve problems related to risk management, utilization review and quality assurance.
  • Performs other duties as requested or assigned, verbally or in writing.

  • Clinical Knowledge: Possesses understanding of assessment and intervention skills, specifically evidence-based practices. Implementation of these skills is done in a professional manner.
  • Problem-Solving: The ability to identify a problem, or to identify situations that could lead to problems, in an effort to intervene quickly and effectively. This may not involve resolving the issue alone, only recognizing the problem, and demonstrating sound judgment by gathering and analyzing information
  • Critical Reasoning: Excellent observation skills and the ability to combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions, as well as extracting themes or patterns from seemingly unrelated pieces of information
  • Communication: Ability to convey complicated clinical and professional information to various audiences, in both written and oral form. Understanding the context in which information exists, and the ability to temper opinions diplomatically, all in an effort to model mature, positive, and appropriate behavior. Written communication is edited for spelling and grammar, and presents numerical and scientific data appropriately in clear, concise, and accurate manner.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

Requirements:
Professional Credentials:
CPR and First Aid
Valid Driver’s License and three year motor vehicle record

Education and Experience:
MSN with Delaware licensure as a Registered Nurse with advanced practice credentials (APRN) and prescriptive privileges.
