POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the general supervision of the Dental Clinical Office Manager, the Dental Team Office Manager is expected to possess all clinical abilities to proficiently perform the functions of a Dental Assistant I and II. Besides a practical knowledge of clinical operations, this position also provides cross coverage for front office duties and requires an understanding of customer service etiquette, third party billing, and relevant practice management reports. As such, the position requires leadership to tactfully manage over 14 support staff; demonstrate strong clinical proficiency as a chairside assistant for various providers on a daily basis; work collaboratively with and perform cross coverage for front office staff when required; understand processes related to treatment plans, payments, and billing; critical thinking skills to assess and seek resolution of technical software/hardware problems associated with dental equipment or programs; understand, monitor; and assure departmental compliance with organizational, State, and Federal policies, procedures, and regulations pertaining to operations; critically monitor and assess operational conditions throughout the work shift in order to maximize patient service delivery and productivity; and facilitate the achievement of daily productivity goals. In summary, this position provides a range of general financial, administrative, management, programmatic, and clinical support for a multiple operatory, multi-location, comprehensive dental program which has an emphasis on pediatrics. The individual must be able to concurrently perform multiple responsibilities, respond to demands which may have short lead times, provide coverage to fill in for staff absences when required, and meet assigned deadlines. Provides coverage for the Office Manager in their absence.

QUALIFICATIONS:


KNOWLEDGE OF:

1. Current dental clinical and payment processes, dental practice standards and procedures. This includes electronic records, relevant clinical technologies, and third party processes.

2. Principles and standards related to infection control, blood borne pathogens, conscious sedation, radiation safety, and infectious waste disposal.

3. Medical conditions as they relate to oral health and treatment.

4. Organizational and departmental policies and procedures, state and federal regulations and compliance requirements as it relates to dental operations.

5. Personnel management principles.

6. Culture, values, and lifestyles of the clientele served by the health center.


EXPERIENCE / EDUCATION:

1. Valid driver’s license

2. Five years of full time chairside experience as a Dental Assistant demonstrating clinical proficiency and reliable attendance. Experience immediately or within two years of application preferred.

3. Minimum one year supervisory and managerial experience. Work experience in a group practice setting with responsibilities over 4 or more support staff is highly desired.

4. Reference from the most recent job position documenting attendance performance, any disciplinary action or counseling, and ability to work cooperatively as a team member is expected prior to final approval for hire.

5. Approval of Dental Director and Dental Office Manager in lieu of experience, training, work history is required.
