Acts as information clerk/receptionist and maintains good public relations with patients, family visitors, physicians and hospital staff. Has regular contact with other departments.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High School graduate or GED.
  • Nursing student who has completed at least one clinical rotation or Certified Nursing Assistant Certification required.
  • Must possess current BLS certification.
  • Monitor Tech Certification required within 6 months.
  • Basic electrocardiography interpretation.
  • Skills to work independently essential.
  • Ability to speak, read, and write English effectively is essential.
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills in order to instruct patients and their families and communicate with hospital staff.
  • High degree of accuracy is required

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Knows, understands, incorporates, and demonstrates the Organizational Mission, Core Values, and Vision in behaviors, practices, policies and decisions.
  • Collects urine and stool specimens as directed. Labels specimens and delivers them to Laboratory as needed.
  • Measures and records intake and output.
  • Monitors, interprets monitor screen, posts rhythm strips in charts and informs patient caregiver of rhythm changes. Records patients EKG rhythm as designated in department protocol.
  • Greet individuals coming to the unit and on the telephone, provide directions and information and be responsive to needs and requests in a professional manner.
  • Completes reports and keeps log book current when applicable.
  • Obtains staffing/acuity number for next shift.
  • Maintain unit specific documentation as requested, i.e., assignment sheets, temperature logs, etc.
  • Assist RN in care of patients with procedures such as admitting patients, pre and post-op care, enemas, lifting and turning, post mortem care, crutch-walking, traction, applying foot and bed boards, preparing delivery room, etc.
  • Performs procedures such as bath care, oral hygiene, positioning, back care, feeding, making beds, applying ice bags and collars, sitz baths, the transfer and discharge of patients, TPR’s and BP’s.
  • Other duties as assigned.
