I. Basic Purpose:

Perform Pulmonary Function Test as ordered by physicians, according to established standards and practices.

II. Major Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Complies with established corporate and departmental policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance methods, and safety codes. Demonstrates compliance with licensing, regulatory and accrediting agency provisions as required.

2. Consistently demonstrates appropriate and professional communication behavior toward patients, customers, and coworkers. Cooperates with Management and peers to promote an environment of teamwork and collaboration.

3. Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.

4. Sets up equipment and administers respiratory treatment (PFT) as ordered by the physician.

5. Assesses patient's indications for therapy and advocates appropriate utilization.

6. Safely utilizes therapeutic and diagnostic medical gases.

7. Administers drugs and medications relative to the PFT.

8. Performs Pulmonary Function Test.

9. Provides proper cleaning, sterilization and calibration of all respiratory equipment to ensure safe patient care.

10. Maintains department records, reports and files as required.

11. Maintains security of patient information and confidentiality at all times

12. Maintains annual mandatory education requirements specific to position as mandated by Martin Health System.

13. Performs all other duties as assigned or requested.


III. Minimum Requirements (experience, training, and education):

To effectively fulfill this position, candidate must meet the following requirements:

> Must have Associate's Degree; copy of degree required to be submitted at time of hire or transfer.
> Current, valid Florida RRT license required – Primary Source online verification required directly from State of Florida licensing database.
> RRT credential from National Board for Respiratory Care required.
> Current acceptable CPR certification required: American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Health Care Provider OR American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer OR American Red Cross Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers.

Candidate must have a minimum of one year experience in an acute care hospital. Must be able to handle multiple priorities with a high degree of critical thinking skills and demonstrate clinical competency in respiratory care. Must be able to meet customer demands and work well within a team.
