MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be a Registered Dietitian (RD) or a Licensed Dietitian/Nutritionist (LD/N)
  • Must have at least 2 years of direct client Nutrition Counseling Experience
  • Skilled at using a personal computer to accurately input and retrieve information
  • Able to work a flexible schedule, some days may start at 7:30am, other days may end at 6:30pm
  • Ability to maintain 100% client confidentiality on and off the job
  • Ability to be at your workstation on time on a daily basis to serve clients
  • Florida Department of Health is required to work before, during, and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs shelter or performing other emergency duties including but not limited to, response to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster man-made or natural.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Become a Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC) or already have this credential
  • Bilingual-English/Spanish (Proficient reading and writing English/Spanish)

WHAT IS OPS EMPLOYMENT?

Other Personal Services (OPS) employment is a temporary employer/employee relationship, usually part-time. OPS are at-will employees and are subject to actions such as pay changes, changes to work assignment and terminations at the recommendation of the employer.

This is a highly responsible professional position working part-time as a Public Health Nutritionist. The incumbent is expected to provide nutrition assessment, education and counseling to clients.

Providing Nutrition Education
Duties include but are not limited to:
Provides client nutrition education and counseling including special diet instruction and follow-up individually and in group settings. Develops client/family nutrition care plans and goals.
Reviews immunization, and blood work documentation from clients.
May perform heights and weights of clients and interprets anthropometric measurements.
Monitors high risk clients including those on special formulas
Collects, organizes, and assesses nutrition information in accordance with DHM150-24 and Healthy Start Standards & Guidelines.
Communication and Partnership
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Performs WIC outreach activities as assigned, including attending community meetings.
Performs related work as required such as: Assists in nutrition outreach at schools, child care centers, libraries, etc.
Assists in in-service (formal and informal) nutrition and diet activities for CHD staff and other workers in the community.
Communicates with clients via telephone; informs co-workers and supervisor of changes needed in the schedule to serve clients in a timely manner, with courtesy and accuracy.
Actively participates in team meetings to improve services,
Refers clients to community partners for assistance as appropriate.
Frequent communication with immediate supervisor about performance is expected.

Administrative
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Learns and utilizes the WIC System and other computer systems.
Maintains records and reports of work performed.
Documentation of tasks to ensure quality service.
Assists in quality assurance reviews including chart reviews, vendor monitoring, and report responses.
Participates in staff training and development.
Submits purchase requisitions for needed supplies.

Knowledge, skills and abilities, including utilization of equipment, required for the position:
Knowledge of office procedures, practices and organization skills. Skilled in operating a computer. Knowledge of basic arithmetic. Skilled in basic counseling techniques. Ability to plan, organize and coordinate the work assignments. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain working relationships. Willingness to work a flexible schedule as needed.
Ability to speak Spanish preferred.
Licensed as a Dietitian/Nutritionist with 2 years public health nutrition experience.
Other job-related requirements for this position:
Emergency Duty: Incumbent may be required to work during or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in a Special Needs or Red Cross Shelter, or to perform other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural. Private transportation required. Reimbursement is made on a mileage basis. Will involve travel between Stuart and Indiantown based on agency needs. Adherence to Agency approved Drug-Free Workplace and Dress Code policies required.
