The Department of Social Work at the University of South Dakota invites applications for a 9-month faculty position beginning in the fall 2019 semester. Social work is one of ten departments in the School of Health Sciences, which enjoys a strong working relationship with the USD Sanford School of Medicine.

The Social Work Department offers Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) accredited BSSW and MSW advanced generalist degree programs. The successful candidate will join a productive social work faculty in a vibrant, growing School with many rewarding opportunities for teaching, research, scholarship, and service.

The applicant must have a Master’s Degree in social work from a CSWE-accredited program, a minimum of two years of social work practice experience, be licensed or license eligible in South Dakota, and be experienced in working with children and families. Preference will be given to applicants holding a doctoral degree in social work or an allied field; however, we will also consider applicants without a doctorate. All candidates must be committed to student professional development, academic advising, and serving as professional role models and mentors.

We have a particular need for a BSSW faculty member who has knowledge and experience in generalist practice and who is committed to the professional preparation of entry level generalist practitioners. A strong knowledge and practice base with client groups across the lifespan, along with exposure to and familiarity with trauma-informed practice, is essential. The ideal candidate would be able to teach across the social work curriculum (i.e., in the areas of practice, research, human behavior in the social environment, social policy, and field education). The successful candidate will enjoy a teaching load consistent with her or his rank, tenure/non-tenure status, and other assigned duties. The position requires engagement in service to the Department, the School of Health Sciences, the University, the community, the State of South Dakota, and the social work profession.

The University of South Dakota is the state’s premier doctoral/research-intensive university, as well as the comprehensive university within the South Dakota system of higher education. With an enrollment of over 10,000 students, the university includes the College of Arts and Sciences, College of Fine Arts, School of Business, School of Education, School of Law, School of Health Sciences, School of Medicine, and the Graduate School. Visit us on the web for additional information about USD (https://www.usd.edu). The university’s main campus is located in Vermillion, near the Missouri River in southeastern South Dakota.

Inquiries are invited. Please contact Dr. Jay Memmott, Chair of the Department of Social Work at [email protected] or (605) 357-1450. Applicants may apply online at https://yourfuture.sdbor.edu. As a part of that process, please provide a cover letter addressing your research/scholarship, teaching, and service interests. Please explain why you would like to join our faculty. Your current curriculum vitae and three current letters of reference are also required. Review of applications will begin on or about May 1, 2019 and will continue until a suitable candidate is selected.

The University of South Dakota’s School of Health Sciences is committed to an environment of inclusiveness in classroom and practice settings that honors diverse perspectives, traditions, heritages, and experiences.
