    Duties

    Summary

    This position is responsible for providing a broad range of Oncology services to Veterans receiving care at the Veteran Affairs Medical Center (VAMC).

    This announcement will be " OPEN CONTINUOUSLY " until October 2019.

    Eligible physicians will be forwarded on a monthly basis to the hiring manager for review.

    Responsibilities

    The Staff Physician provides comprehensive care for patients who have illnesses within the scope of general hematology/oncology.

    • In addition to patient care, the physician may have responsibilities in other areas such as education and research.
    • The physician is responsible for providing primary, secondary and tertiary care in both hospitalized and outpatient settings, identifying patients' health problems and designing diagnostic and therapeutic plans to meet these needs.
    • Responsible for coordinating activities of other health service personnel, resolving problems affecting patient care and providing appropriate education for the patient and/or family members regarding the patient's illness and its management.
    • The Staff Physician is responsible for teaching house staff, medical students and other health professionals during ward rounds, clinics and in conferences and providing supervisory control and professional direction for specialized diagnostic units in their field of expertise.

    Qualifications

    To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 09/30/2019.
    Basic Requirements:
    • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
    • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
    • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
    • Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
    • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
    • Physical requirements outlined below.
    Preferred Experience: Board Certified/Eligible - ABIM - Medical Oncology preferred, not required.

    Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-2 Physician Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office.

    Annual leave shall accrue for full-time physicians at the rate of 26 days per leave year (1 day per pay period).
