Type of Position: Regular. A position which is considered essential for the effective long-term operation of the university. Persons appointed to this position will receive the privileges and benefits associated with regular employment status. WEO premium pay at 1.5 rate for working 24 hours between Friday 3 pm – 9 pm, Saturday and Sunday 7 am – 7 pm.

Department Summary:
Urgent Care Clinic is located within the Iowa City corridor and acts as a walk-in clinic that treats a variety of illnesses and injuries. The Urgent Care Clinic has Radiology and Laboratory service on site. They are open Sunday through Saturday daytime and evening hours and see patients of all ages.
Position Summary:
The Department of Family Medicine at the University of Iowa Hospital & Clinics is seeking 60% time WEO Physician Assistant (PA) to perform direct patient care, including diagnostic and therapeutic services. The PA will exercise autonomy in medical decision making and services provided. The PA will also assist in educating healthcare students, as they rotate through the respective departments and divisions and will assist in research endeavors as appropriate. This position reports to the Medical Director within the UI Community Clinics and Lead APP within UI Community Clinics.
Position Responsibilities:
- Provide medical care and management for patients, exercising autonomy in medical decision-making and services provided for the Urgent Care Clinic.
- Function independently to plan, deliver, and evaluate health care for populations with urgent care needs.
- Assess, diagnose and treat medical or surgical problems, as well as, perform therapeutic procedures such as suturing and care of wounds, removal of foreign bodies, ear and eye irrigation.
- Assist in arranging for continued care such as but not limited to: transfer to Emergency Treatment Center or follow up with primary care provider or specialty consultations as needed.

Education Required:
Must comply with registration and licensure requirements as specified by the Iowa Board of Physician Assistant Examiners, which includes graduation from an accredited PA educational program and certification by the NCCPA.
Experience Requirements
- Minimum of one year experience in an urgent care environment or acute care environment, Emergency Department/Trauma Center, or Family Medicine Clinic.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively manage acutely ill patient population (of all ages) within a highly functioning unit/department.
- Proved capacity to function with a high degree of autonomy while actively collaborating within a multidisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated experience working effectively in a diverse environment.
Desirable Qualifications
- 3-5 years’ experience as a Physician Assistant in urgent or acute care environment or Emergency Department/Trauma center desired.
- Some knowledge of University policies and procedures.
- Current valid driver’s license
