Summary:
The Director of Staff Education (DSE) is responsible to assess the training needs of nursing staff and to develop, implement, evaluate and document staff development programs including General Orientation, Job Specific Orientation, In Service, and Continuing Education Programs for nursing department personnel. Communicates with job applicants, conducts interviews, sets up orientation. Maintains assigned systems.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The Director of Staff Education (DSE) is responsible to assess the training needs of nursing staff and to develop, implement, evaluate and document staff development programs including General Orientation, Job Specific Orientation, In Service, and Continuing Education Programs for nursing department personnel. Communicates with job applicants, conducts interviews, sets up orientation. Maintains assigned systems.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Participates in Center Quality Assurance Performance Improvement (QAPI) process, taking the lead in the development of staff
- Develops implements and maintains a written annual staff development plan. Reviews with Administrator, DON and Medical Director to provide required approval
- Participates in general orientation process coordinating with other departments
- Coordinates job specific orientation to familiarize and train new nursing department hires to the expectations of the job
- Acts as preceptor, coach, and resource person to assist nursing department staff to successfully complete the job specific orientation
- Assists in planning, coordinating and conducting required in service programs and/or special training sessions in compliance with applicable federal, state and local laws and/or corporate requirements
- Collaborates with other nursing and center leadership, through center QAPI to complete periodic assessment to identify ongoing learning needs of staff and assists in developing and conducting educational programs to meet the identified needs
- Maintains appropriate documentation of educational programming, including individual employees attendance at educational programs and competency validation as needed
- Maintains up to date personnel files with each employees educational information
- Works with Director of Nursing to establish an annual budget that will provide necessary resources to achieve program objectives
- Assists with demonstrations to acquaint staff with new equipment and to review established equipment, maintaining documentation of such
- During training provides supervision and oversight of employee to ensure skills are performed as outlined in nursing procedures
- Maintains knowledge of PCC and POC and provides training on documentation requirements
- Review employee performance during skills observations
- Ensures employee satisfactorily completes orientation and other assigned training sessions
- Schedules, coordinates or conducts CPR training to allow for current certification of appropriate staff
- Coordinates work of department with work of other departments.
- Attends and participates in staff meetings, department head meetings, and other center meetings and sits on required committees
- Assists in developing and updating departmental procedures and policies
- Follows Policies and Procedures
- Upon assignment, chairs Infection Prevention Program (IPP), maintaining required documentation and communicating findings, trends, patterns with QA committee
- Makes rounds in center on regular basis to identify concerns related to practices that include infection control and other care related tasks, provides one on one education to correct identified deficits
- Maintains contact with local Health Department to ascertain risk of infections and report new onset infections according to requirements
- Leads in, administers, monitors employee health program in conjunction with other appointed center leadership. Maintains appropriate immunization records, etc.
- Conducts Nurse Aide training programs in collaboration with Stonerise Program Coordinator and in accordance with all required rules and regulations
- Other duties as assigned
- Hold a valid license as a Registered Nurse in WV
- Maintains current CPR certification
- Teaching and training experience preferred
- Completes required and/or scheduled continuing education courses, offerings, webinars
