Koch Foods is recruiting for the position of Occupational Nurse for 3rd shift. The Night Shift Plant medical personnel is responsible for the health and wellbeing of employees of the Gadsden Processing Plant in the work place. The medical department works as part of an occupational/environmental health and safety (EHS) team. This position is for a Licensed Practical Nurse or Licensed Paramedic.

The work is delivered according to laws and regulations governing safety for employees and the environment as well as state nurse practice laws and regulations set forth by the Office of Emergency Medical Services (OEMS).

MAJOR POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Employee health and safety
  • Assessing the work environment for potential health and safety problems.
  • Maintaining OSHA logs, 301 and 300A forms for all locations in the absence of the Complex Nurse
  • Completing state first reports for all injured workers in complex and coordinating with worker’s compensation in the absence of the Complex Nurse.
  • Conducting a range of assessments and inspections, in conjunction with regulations, personal protective equipment (PPE) and Safety and Health.
  • Delivering health and safety training.
  • Conduct Safety and Ergonomic Training and Meetings
  • Provide first aid and medical treatment.
  • Communicate safety concerns to appropriate managers.
  • Maintaining employee health records for complex and assist in preparing accident reports.
  • Conduct accident investigations.
  • Investigating the causes of common injuries.
  • Complete post-offer medicals/physicals, including drug screening, hearing and vision screening, and health and fitness advice as needed.
  • Conduct drug and alcohol testing-post accident, reasonable suspicion and post-offer.
  • Complete Medical Clearance as needed according to standing medical orders.
  • Complete safety and health orientation with each orientation class.
  • Maintain and conduct hearing testing for the Hearing Conservation Program.
  • Maintain and conduct respiratory testing for the Respirator Program.
  • Attend MD visits with injured workers when necessary
  • Complete random DOT testing in timely manner.
  • Maintaining first-aid kits, ordering new supplies and destroying out-of-date items as necessary.
  • Assisting injured employees returning to work from medical leave.
  • Monitoring employee exposure to hazardous chemicals.
  • Contacting doctors and/or hospitals, as necessary, to arrange further treatment.
  • When needed in emergency situations, escort employees to ER for treatment.
  • Keeping up to date with legal and professional changes associated with occupational health and safety.
  • Using expertise to ensure organizations meet legislative requirements.
  • Participate in Hazmat program.
  • Report requests for accommodation to dayshift nurse
  • Comply with Standing Orders from physician and stay up to date on variations
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Immunizing employees when necessary-Hepatitis B, Tetanus
  • Accurately and completely chart on employees when necessary
  • Work within the scope of the practice for LPNs/Licensed Paramedics
  • All other duties assigned by the Complex Safety Manager

REQUIREMENTS:

Must have valid Licensed Practical Nurse License in the State of Alabama or Alabama Paramedic License/Certification through National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians

  • Ability to work with limited supervision
  • Must be a self starter
  • Good organizational skills
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office tools-Word and Excel as well as other computer programs
  • Must have a clear driving record and consent to an MVR
  • Bilingual is a plus
