SURGICAL PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT

Full-time APP needed to expand coverage for busy vascular surgery service at level 1 trauma center. Work in conjunction with existing APPs and surgical residents to complete daily duties, to include admissions and discharges, daily rounds and notes, inpatient consults, multi-disciplinary care coordination, attending to RN needs, patient education, and responding to vascular emergencies. There is potential to first-assist in the OR as well. This position is intended to increase APP coverage for afternoons/evenings and weekends (proposed schedule is 4 ten-hour days, either Sunday through Wednesday, or Wednesday through Saturday).

Performs preoperative patient assessment. Provides safe therapeutic care in a holistic and systematic way. Incorporates differences into the provision of care. Integrates knowledge, skills and experiences to meet the needs of patients and families throughout the continuum to include patient family education. Knowledge and Practice: Demonstrates knowledge, expertise and clinical competency in the Role of the First and Second Surgical Assistant. Uses an integrated approach toward patient outcomes. Teamwork for Outcome Driven Care: Provides patient care independently and works cooperatively with colleagues and other team members. Professional Development: Ensures improvements in practice settings by assuming responsibility for self development in life long learning. Demonstrates leadership skills and self development goals. Serves as a resource preceptor and mentor.

Requirements

Experience:
One year surgical residency in an ARC-PA approved program and two years surgical experience at the first assistant level preferred. One year surgical residency in an ARC-PA approved program and two years surgical experience at the first assistant level preferred.

Education:
Graduate of a program that is under the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant.(ARC-PA). Board eligible for NCCPA examination. Graduate of a program that is under the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant.(ARC-PA). Board eligible for NCCPA examination.

Certification:
Basic Life Support (BLS)

Special Skills:
Verbal and written communication and computer skills required.
