Summary of Duties:
Responsible for providing optimal patient care, adult or geriatric, according to the hospital and departmental policies and procedures and Joint Commission standards and requirements. Accountable for the evaluations of patients, development of patient care plans, development of long and short-term goals, delivery of direct patient care, reassessment and the care provided by staff under his/her supervision. May be called upon to act on departmental matters during the absence of the Director.
Essential Job Functions:
Minimum of two (2) years experience preferred.

Essential Job Functions:
- Provides physical care services that include: evaluation of patients, development of patient specific treatment plans and physical therapy goals, delivery of direct patient care, monitoring/reassessment of treatment plan, and monitoring response to treatment.
- Delegates appropriate patients/patient care to Physical Therapist Assistant and other support staff while retaining overall responsibility of the patient’s care and treatment plan; intervenes in delegated care as necessary.
- Maintains adequate documentation for patient and departmental records in accordance with hospital and departmental policy.
- Receives and interprets orders for patient care from the medical record, phone orders, verbal orders from medical staff, or from written prescriptions.
- Supervises performance of staff under his/her supervision and assists in problem solving with the staff under his/her supervision.
- Interacts with physicians and other healthcare professionals when indicated concerning orders, treatment plan revisions, interpretations, etc. in relation to the care of patients.
- Participates in the multidisciplinary care for patients by communicating with the patient, their family, and the other members of the healthcare team participating in the care of that patient.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from an American Physical Therapy Association accredited Physical Therapist program.
- Current licensure to practice as Physical Therapist in the State of Alabama.
Minimum of two (2) years experience preferred.
Physical Requirements for Essential Job Functions:
- Must be able to lift up to 100 lbs. with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Must be able to push/pull 5-50 lbs.
- Must be able to maintain balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl in order to administer or demonstrate patient treatment.
- Must be able to walk, stand, and work for extended periods of time without relief.
- Must possess dexterity of arms, hands, and fingers bilaterally.
- Must be able to push/pull carts weighing up to 200 pounds.
- Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so the requirements of this position can be fully met.
