Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON)

The primary purpose of this position is to set resident care standards for all direct care providers and provide complete supervision/management for the nursing department in a long-term nursing facility. This position supports the DON in planning, organizing, implementing, evaluating and directing the overall operation of Nursing Services within the guidelines of facility policies.
This position reports directly to the Director of Nursing (DON).
Duties for this position include but are not limited to:
  • Assist the DON with providing day-to-day execution and supervision of resident care procedures. Make rounds of all nursing units. Be involved in establishing care plans for each resident. Conduct or participate in resident care conferences. Assist with the review of nurses’ notes. Assist with the management of MDS/RAI process, Restorative Nursing, Medical Records Compliance, discharge planning, Infection Control Program and Wound Compliance Program. Participate in surveys (inspections) made by authorized government agencies. Assist with the coordination of resident admissions, transfers and discharges. Serving on the Quality Assurance Committee. Assist with conducting staff meetings and participate in committee functions. Prepare written employee performance evaluations. Collaborate with the DON with the recruitment, interviewing and selection of nursing service personnel which includes CNAs, QMAs, and Staff Nurses. Ensure adequate staff is available and assist with the replacement of absent personnel.

Required qualifications:

  • Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing and possess a valid RN license;
  • Have a thorough understanding of the principles of safe effective nursing practices.
