The VCU Health System Department of Internal Medicine-Geriatrics is currently seeking a part time Physician Assistant within its Center for Advanced Health Management's (CAHM) Geriatric Clinic. This PA will provide a daily presence in the clinical environment, and have protected administrative time for care coordination, documentation, and communication. He/she will practice as part of an interdisciplinary team, in a value and outcomes-based environment. The MD/PA team effectively shares a panel of patients, expanding the capacity of the service and improving outcomes, quality of care, and patient satisfaction. For patient visits, the practitioners work autonomously for history taking, physical examination, diagnosing, and treating patients with acute and chronic medical issues, as well as comprehensive physical exams. The chosen candidate will possess a high level of clinical assessment skills and medical decision making. Candidate must have the ability to balance multiple competing priorities and practice with a high level of autonomy. The award winning CAHM model operates with a patient-centric focus and a comprehensive, team-based, outcomes-motivated approach to care using Population Health principles.
Responsibilities
Daily clinical sessions plus twice weekly administrative support time.
Clinical decision making in collaboration with physicians and daily prioritization of activities.
May supervise and/or coordinate the activities of other medical and support staff as it relates to patient care.
Qualifications
Required
Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant Program
Successful completion of the Physician Assistant National Certifying Exam (PANCE)
Current license as a Physician Assistant by the Virginia Board of Medicine
Current PA-C certification
Current CPR and BLS certifications
Current ACLS certification where needed
Current prescriptive authority/licensure by the Virginia Board of Medicine
Credentialing in accordance with medical staff by-laws for specific job title
Previous clinical experience with the population served
Preferred
Three (3) years of previous clinical experience with the population served
Previous experience in an academic healthcare system
