The Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting the physician in patient treatment issues, providing direct patient care, and maintains proper standards of quality. They will perform nursing and medical assistant as well as X-ray Technologist duties while acquiring supplementary knowledge of the medical field and help to make the workplace an efficient and effective environment for all.
Hours:
Monday- Friday 10:00am-7:00pm
Saturday & Sunday 1:00pm-6:00pm
Rotating Staff Schedules
Responsibilities:
- Schedule patient appointments and follow ups
- Prepare and administering injections
- Employing skill in Patient Care and communication
- Fit all DME and splints for the patients
- Apply and remove casts/splints
- Assist provider with preparing and administering Supartz/Orthovisc injections, which may involve ultrasound guidance
- Inform athletic trainers and coaches of patient (athlete) status
- Prepare PT scripts and assist patient with any other paperwork (e.g. work status form)
- Call in patient prescriptions
- Obtain prior approval from insurance companies on prescriptions, injections, or procedures as needed
- Report MRI and lab results to patients as directed by provider
- Assist physician with E-Prescribing and all other EMR functions equired for capturing meaningful-use data
- Assist in ordering and organizing supplies in the medical supply closet
- Maintain organized and fully stocked pod and patient rooms
- Manage physician’s clinic schedule and calendar for meetings
- Oversee daily faxes
- Check voicemails daily
- Facilitating the front office as needed
- Assisting with keeping the entire office clean and operating efficiently
- Adheres to all company policies and procedures
- Perform orthopedic radiological procedures
- Document appropriate charges for x-ray examinations
- Burn x-ray images to CDs as requested by physician or patient
- Convert transferred MRI images to OrthoExpress patient ID
- Log x-ray examinations and patient examinations
- Responsible for insuring routine maintenance of x-ray equipment
- Prepare patient radiography by transporting patient between waiting or patient room and x-ray room, ensuring proper identification of patient according to established procedures
- Calculates and selects proper technical factors such as voltage, current, exposure time, and focal distance based on information such as patients age, physical condition, and suspected pathology
- Operate radiology equipment by manually activating and adjusting proper switches to regulate length and intensity of exposure
- Ensure digital images meet established quality control standards before forwarding as required to PACS

Education and Experience:
- High School diploma or equivalency
- General nursing skills
- X-Ray Tech Preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Certified Medical Assistant or X-ray technologist
- Understanding of ICD-10 coding
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- General computer skills, especially with Microsoft Office Applications (i.e. – Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)
- Data Entry
- Good communication skills
- Strong Customer Service Skills
- EMR experience is a plus
- Computer software/hardware troubleshooting
