To foster the mission of Emerson Point by furthering the objective of promoting choice, dignity and independence through the delivery of supportive services. This person serves as a direct contact provider for all tenants, and accommodating guests. Must be a self-starter and able to work independently.

  • Assists tenants with self-administration of medications and documents.
  • Assists with fostering tenant's autonomy and independence.
  • Determines how to best accomplish functions within established procedures and policies and confers with the Nurse Supervisor or designee on any unusual situations or problems.
  • May document vital signs and selected care activities.
  • Monitors for environmental safety hazards.
  • Participates in scheduled staff meetings, in-services, performance improvement programs, projects or committees as assigned.
  • Performs all duties in compliance with applicable regulatory standards.
  • Maintains knowledge base and continuing education to ensure compliance with JCAHO, Medicare/Medicaid and other guidelines.
  • Notifies management of any breaches of standards and contributes to improvement processes.
  • Performs basic treatments, such as passive range of motion, simple dressing changes, and skin care.
  • Provides holistic assistance with activities of daily living (dressing, bathing, personal hygiene, escorting to meals, etc.) or instrumental activities of daily living (use of telephone, housekeeping tasks, laundry, etc.) per the tenant's individual service plan under the Nurse Supervisor supervision.
  • Recognizes and reports changes in tenant's physical conditions and cognitive/emotional status. Reports observed variances to the Nurse Supervisor or designee.

Minimum Requirements

Education

  • High school diploma required
  • Successful completion of a 75-hour nurse aide class, with 16 hours supervised practical training, required.


Experience

  • Must possess the ability to read and write and to accurately relay telephone verbal messages.
  • Able to relate to the public in a caring, tactful and courteous manner under all circumstances.
  • Motivated and able to work independently, as well as be a team player.
  • Must possess the ability to multi-task.
  • Previous experience as a home health care aide or similar aide experience in a hospital environment.
  • Valid Iowa drivers license; reliable transportation.

Certification

  • Certified Nurse Assistant registered with the Iowa Nurse Aide Registry required.
  • BCLS proficiency within 6 months of hire.
