Primary Job Function:

The primary purpose of this position is to set resident care standards for all direct care providers and provide complete supervision/management for the nursing department. This position supports the DON in planning, organizing, implementing, evaluating and directing the overall operation of Nursing Services within the guidelines of facility policies. This position also includes leading the staff development function and assisting with the staffing assignments.

Primary Responsibilities:

CLINICAL LEADERSHIP-Defining and implementing the objectives, policies and standards for the nursing care of the residents in accordance with facility policy and regulatory agency expectations. This includes:

Assisting the DON with providing day to day execution and supervision of resident care procedures and taking corrective action as necessary. This includes making regular and meaningful rounds of all nursing units;

Being involved in establishing care plans for each resident, assessing, needs and goals. This includes conducting or participating in resident care conferences and providing follow-up on consultant recommendations per the direction of the DON;

Assisting with the review of nurses notes to determine if the care plan is being followed and also includes ascertaining that nursing completes all necessary reports, charting and assessments as required by their positions;

Assisting with the management of MDS/RAI process, Restorative Nursing, Medical Records Compliance, discharge planning, Infection Control Program and Wound Compliance Program;

Participating in surveys (inspections) made by authorized government agencies and taking a leadership role in such;

Assisting with the coordination of residents admissions, transfers and discharges;

Leading and/or assisting the facility quality assurance activities by serving on the Quality Assurance Committee;

Assisting with conducting staff meetings with all shifts for purpose of planning, coordination and implementing nursing service policies and procedures;

Acting on behalf of the DON if DON is absent.

Assist in hiring CNA's and QMA's

Coordinating assignments for CNA's and QMA'S

Maintaining a reference library of written material, laws, etc., necessary for complying with current standards/regulations and that will provide assistance in maintaining quality nursing service.

Providing on the job orientation and on-going staff training

Monitoring and tracking changes in certifications and competence of nursing services personnel;

Minimum Qualification/Requirement

Must have high school diploma or GED

Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing and possess a valid RN or LPN license

Have a thorough understanding of the principles of safe effective nursing practices

Must possess administrative, managerial and interpersonal skills such as:

The ability to follow written and verbal instructions, function independently and make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action

Personal integrity and ability to deal tactfully with residents, family members, visitors, government agencies and personnel;

The ability to work harmoniously with professional and non-professional personnel;

Requires judgment in prioritizing the performance of tasks, duties and responsibilities in accordance with established standards, policies and procedures;

The ability to be discrete and protect the integrity of confidential information and stay within Corporate Compliance and HIPPA;

Patience, a cheerful disposition, enthusiasm and a willingness to handle residents based on whatever maturity and physical level in which they are currently functioning;

The ability to adhere to professional code of ethics, and the ability to relate information concerning a resident's condition to the appropriate staff members.
