POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for assessing skill and knowledge needs of all nursing staff, assisting planning educational programs to meet the needs of nursing service personnel, and ensuring high standards of care.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

• Evaluates nursing care on a continuous basis to assure provision of optimal quality of care
• Assists with planning of care for residents on an individual basis
• Serve as Director of Nursing in absence of Director
• Participates in development of policies and procedures
• Participate in performance evaluations of nursing staff
• Participate in continuing education program to keep abreast of new developments in medical science and nursing practice
• Participates in assessing educational needs of all nursing personnel
• Performs other related duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

• A graduate of an accredited school of nursing
• Valid Illinois nursing license as a Registered Nurse
• Calm demeanor and caring approach
• Excellent communication and organizational skills
• Experience in rehabilitation and/or geriatric nursing with sensitivity to the total needs of the older adult preferred.
• Ability to provide direct patient care and give direction when necessary to floor nurse and nursing assistant to provide proper patient care.
• Ability to competently perform all basic nursing skills.
• Maintain a professional, cooperative relationship among health care teams by communicating essential information, responding to requests in timely manner, building rapport and participating in team problem solving methods.
