This job manages all aspects of clinical research protocol, maintains accurate, complete and timely case report forms on all assigned studies. Assesses patient's eligibility for protocol participation and monitors therapy and ongoing toxicities for study patients. Provides care based on physical, psycho/social, educational, safety and related criteria, appropriate to the ages of patients served in assigned area.
Education
Required - Registered Nurse Diploma
Preferred - Bachelor's degree- Nursing
Work Experience
Required - 3 years experience as a registered nurse in an inpatient unit.
Experience working in Oncology.
Experience working with confidential information.
Certifications
Required - Current State of Louisiana Registered Nurse License
Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association
Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)

The physical essential functions of this job include (but are not limited to) the following: Frequently exerting 10 to 20 pounds of force to move objects; occasionally exerting up to 100 pounds of force. - Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of patient information.
- Must be proficient with Windows-style applications and keyboard.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process.

- Must be proficient with Windows-style applications, various software packages specific to role and keyboard
- Knowledge in assessing toxicities from investigational drugs and identifying toxicities as opposed to disease effects
- Educates patients and family members about protocols including risks and benefits of participation, potential side-effects, and self-administration of drugs if required.
- Monitors patients during medical procedures and ensures patient safety.
- Ensures protocol schedule is followed for therapy, required examinations and follow-up.
- Completes and/or supervises the Data Coordinator for the completion of case report forms on assigned protocols accurately and within the time frame required by the study.
- Meets deadlines by prioritizing work appropriately including on-study forms as well as follow-up and documentation in source document.
- Schedules appointments and manages patient information electronically and enters required information into computerized database, updating daily as required for follow-up.
- Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to: respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.
