POSITION PURPOSE

Under general direction, assumes day to day responsibility all internal operations for Critical Access Hospital. This includes planning, directing and organizing the day-to-day operations of the hospital. Maintains the operation budget, goals and objectives, and ensures that services are provided in a manner consistent with the mission and philosophy of Mercy Medical Center. Adheres to the principles of Service Excellence Guiding Behaviors and the philosophy and mission of Mercy in all aspects of job performance.

7.

Maintains expertise in the fields of health care management and hospital operations through formal and informal educational and organizational activities. Works with MMC and external agencies to promote the growth and broaden the knowledge and skills of subordinate personnel.

8.

Ensures that the organization complies with all legal requirements of licensure, accreditation and regulations, and reviews and acts upon reports of all licensing, accrediting and regulatory agencies.

9.

Represents Mercy in meetings with external agencies, the local community and other health care organizations in order to improve the quality and cost effectiveness of various services and enhance Mercy’s public relations.

10.

Ensures that facility and site provisions are adequate to allow implementation of long-range plans.

11.

Directs the activities, provides leadership, and coordinates the efforts of planning, budgeting, control and evaluation of their departmental activities.

12.

Is responsible for creating an environment of organizational learning about patient safety and medical/health care error reduction, supports sharing of knowledge and fosters behavioral changes to improve patient safety.

13.

Employee may periodically be requested to drive.

14.

Knows, understands, incorporates, and demonstrates the Mercy and Trinity Health Mission, Vision, and Values in behaviors, practices, and decisions.

15.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Requires an RN license in the State of Iowa, or state of residence if the candidate resides in a compact state Requires a Bachelor degree in Nursing and a Master's degree in Nursing or related field. National certification in specialty area is required within one year of hire. Requires a minimum of three to five years progressive management experience. Must have working knowledge base of assigned services. Excellent interpersonal/listening skills to interact effectively with individuals of all backgrounds, experience and educational levels. Excellent written/oral communication skills. Demonstrates ability to communicate effectively with staff, physicians, and other allied health professionals. Individual should be dynamic, creative and intelligent. Successful individual should be a mature executive with a professional appearance/demeanor, excellent character, integrity and commitment. Must be able to function effectively under stress. May be requested to travel within the Siouxland region. When assigned to travel, a valid driver’s license and proof of insurance will be submitted to manager prior to travel. Must have a general working knowledge of computers and department specific software (i.e. Healthstream, internet, etc.) Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment. Must possess a personal presence that is characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity, and caring with the ability to inspire and motivate others to promote the philosophy, mission, vision, goals, and values of Mercy and Trinity Health.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

Must successfully pass employment physical examination and must adhere to applicable organizational requirements on an annual basis for Employee Health Directives. Must possess the ability to comply with Mercy and Trinity Health policies and procedures. This job is categorized as ""Light Work"". Has the physical stamina to meet the requirements of this job. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently. Involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing. Must be able to handle stress effectively. Must understand and accept the possibility of exposure to environmental elements, internal and external, which may affect the work place, such as infectious disease, chemical and/or chemical fumes, dust, noise, physical injury from an out of control patient, and adverse effects of inclement weather which may occur.
