How You'll Make a Difference:

Provides leadership and work direction to the Medical Technologist staff. Assists the supervisor with laboratory and administrative functions.


Acts as a resource and role model to employees, which includes training/orienting and providing day-to-day work direction. Assigns, monitors, and reviews progress and accuracy of work, monitors productivity, maintains appropriate staffing levels, directs efforts and provides guidance on more complex issues.

Assists with human resource responsibilities, which may include interviewing and selection of new employees, staff development, resolution of employee concerns, and employee morale. Assists in interpreting department policies and procedures, and advises and updates staff on procedural changes. Assists with preparation and monitoring of operating and capital budgets.

Performs all duties of the technical and/or support staff.

Serves as staff resource regarding technical and/or administrative policies and procedures. Participates in policy/procedure review process.

Documents all appropriate information for quality assurance/improvement according to established protocol. Utilizes laboratory information systems appropriately.

Ascertains that specimens are properly labeled and suitable for testing. Collects specimens from newborn, pediatric, and adult patients according to established protocol. Performs internal and external proficiency testing in the same manner as patient samples.

Provides general direction and technical assistance to Medical Laboratory Technicians, Phlebotomists, and support staff. Assists in the development of education and training protocols; instructs students, residents and new caregivers as assigned.

Assists in improving the quality and efficiency of laboratory procedures, policies, and processes. Ensures compliance with all accrediting agency standards.

Maintains constructive and effective communication to enhance department performance.

Supports change efforts within the organization and contributes to their successful implementation.

What it Will Take:

Licenses & Certifications

Medical Technologist (MT) certification issued by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), or

Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) certification issued by the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP BOC), or

Medical Technologist (MT) certification issued by the American Medical Technologists (AMT).

Degrees

Bachelor's Degree in Clinical Laboratory Sciences, or

Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology or related field.

Required Functional Experience

Typically requires 2 years of experience in a laboratory related position.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.Ability to handle stressful situations in a calm and professional manner.Ability to work a flexible schedule, which may include alternate site assignment.Maintains patient confidentiality in and out of the workplace.Demonstrates a willingness to work a flexible schedule that may include alternate site assignment.

What We'd Love to See:

Organization, ability to stay positive amidst change, ability to stay calm and motivate the team members

Thorough understanding of lab processes, competency, proficiency testing.

Ability to make schedules, address PTO requests.

Be a Key Operator for one of the lab analyzers.


Scheduled Hours:

Mostly 2nd shift, fulltime, variable on 1st and 3rd as necessary. some weekends as needed.

No scheduled weekend or Holiday Rotation , but on Call as needed to support the team, long work hours to cover shifts as needed.
