General Purpose
The Nurse Assistant Lead Instructor serves the roll of Program Coordinator and has primary responsibility and authority to administer the Nurse Assistant Program. Designated as the Coordinator of record with the UNAR office. This position reports on matters relating to teaching, advising students, utilizing and teaching state required NATCEP curriculum, program revisions, clinical site management, textbook selection, and Nursing Assistant pass rates on state examinations in accordance with the mission, core values, and purposes of Davis Applied Technology College.
Supports the College mission and serves students, employers, and the College community by providing quality Nurse Assistant job skills training in a safe, clean environment. Maintains a positive and productive learning environment by working collaboratively with students, staff, faculty and College partners. Program Coordinator has the ability to: collaborate, simplify, communicate, advocate, celebrate success, build trust, empower others, and improve the College community and its programs.
Responsible for curriculum development and ensuring it is current in meeting the latest trends, technology, and needs of the industry. Must also maintain current, state-of-the-art training skills in nurse assisting. Additional focus on building relationships, partnerships, and outreach with business / industry leaders is expected. Works as a liaison with employers to promote jobs and careers for students.

Job Focus
- Oversees administration of the Nurse Assistant program and ensures quality compliance. Serves as the Program Coordinator.
- Provides instruction, monitors progress, and advises students when needed.
- Teaches and/or supervises students in the classroom and clinical settings, based on scheduling needs.
- Assigns faculty workloads in accordance with DATC's policy and procedures.
- Responsible for Nurse Assistant Program's accreditation reviews and reports.
- Reviews projected offerings for the program and recommends program revisions.
- Makes recommendations regarding equipment and software purchases and equipment maintenance contracts.
- Cooperatively develops and monitors a budget. Prepares an annual budget proposal in consultation with the program staff and the Director of Nursing and Health Professions.
- Arranges for the procurement and inventory of supplies and instructional materials.
- Assists in publicizing and disseminating information about the Nurse Assistant Program.
- Creates and supports the Employer Advisory Committee in implementing and incorporating advisory committee input on curriculum.
- Nurtures partnerships, coordinates program agreements/contracts, and meets with clinics and outside entities on a quarterly basis.
- Assists with annual performance evaluations of program instructional staff in conjunction with the Director of Nursing and Health Professions.
- Participates in local, state, and national nurse assistant meetings.
- Actively sponsors/supports a chapter of the designated Student Leadership Organization.
- Encourages and exemplifies professional behavior and good work habits.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Must hold a minimum of an Associate Degree and be a Registered Nurse, with a current, active license to practice in Utah, and in good standing with the Utah Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing.
- Must have a minimum of two years of nursing experience, with at least one year experience in long-term care facility services caring for the elderly or chronically ill, in direct patient care.
- Must be approved by the Utah Nursing Assistant Registry (UNAR) to coordinate, manage, and serve as an instructor in the Nurse Assistant program courses.
- Must complete the UNAR approved "Train the Trainer" or demonstrate competency in teaching adults, and/or experience in supervising Nurse Assistants as defined by the UNAR.
- Proficiency in operating various computer systems including spreadsheets, word processing, calendar/scheduling, plus experience with educational learning management systems is preferred.

- Must demonstrate critical thinking skills and professionalism.
- Must have proven ability to lead, including the ability to act as an advocate for the College in all partnerships.
- Must have open, positive communication skills with ability to foster a productive learning environment.
- Position requires ability to work a flexible schedule, and may require evening and weekend hours.
- Must meet requirements of College accrediting body, satisfy Utah State Office of Education (USOE) licensing requirements, and ensure compliance with UNAR.
- Must successfully complete a criminal background check.
- The Nurse Assistant Coordinator must be able to effectively communicate educational concepts and principles, be able to create and develop curriculum, and deliver instructional outcomes.
- This position also requires the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds, and demonstrate the proper physical requirements associated with performing nurse assistant functions.
