Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 12/31/2019.
Basic Requirements:- United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
- Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
- Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.
- Physical requirements outlined below.
- Extensive clinical experience and understanding of the relationship between various patient care providers.
- History of successful administrative accomplishments.
- Leadership traits that demonstrate the courage of convictions, patience, and an ability to work with others.
- Emotional and physical stamina appropriate to the position.
- Competence in basic management skills.
- Board Certified.

Summary
FIRST CUTOFF DATE : Applications received by the first cutoff date, April 24, 2019, will be referred first. Responsibilities
The Central Alabama Veterans Health Care System (CAVHCS) is a consolidated health care system that includes VA Medical Centers in Montgomery and Tuskegee Alabama. As well as Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOC's) in: Dothan, Alabama; Ft. Rucker, Alabama; Monroeville, Alabama; Columbus, Georgia; and the Montgomery Alabama VA Clinic.
The primary duty station for this position is at the Montgomery Campus. The incumbent will be required to work on site at the other locations as required.
The Chief of Staff is the chairperson of the Medical Staff and chairs of the Executive Council of the Medical Staff. He/She acts as full assistant to the Director in the efficient management of clinical and medical services to eligible patients and the active maintenance of a medical of a medical credentialing and privileging and/or scope of practice system for licensed independent practitioners, physician assistants, clinical nurse specialists and certified registered nurse anesthetists, as well as credentialing of certain allied health practitioners per VA policy.
The incumbent directs and manages all administrative activities within the service line including budget and fiscal management. The incumbent is responsible for the successful performance of his/her assigned areas, specifically with regard to customer satisfaction, quality of patient care services provided, accreditation compliance, and the efficient delivery of services. Incumbent implements and manages Performance Improvement/QA and Performance Improvement programs within the service line. The incumbent is fully responsible for developing the necessary policies, procedures, and organizational structures required to fulfill the service line's mission. The incumbent establishes the organizational structure, lines of authority and supervisory controls essential to carrying out the mission of the service line.
The incumbent maintains close liaison with service/service line chiefs, subordinate supervisors, clinical managers, team leaders, and administrative/clinical staff of the service line. The incumbent coordinates the development and implementation of the budgetary, position, and equipment management programs within the service line. The incumbent serves on various committees, task forces, etc. within VA, VHA, the VISN or Medical Center, or the local community.
