As a pivotal partner within the health care delivery team, the Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) will ensure the delivery of quality patient care, both individually as well as through leadership and delegation to other team members.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • The employee shall comply with all safety and health standards, and all rules, regulations, and orders which are applicable to the individual's own position, actions, and conduct.
  • Performs duties and responsibilities within the scope of a Registered Respiratory Therapist as defined by the AARC and NBRC and Wyoming Medical Center policies and procedures.
  • Assesses, develops, implements and evaluates plan of care for the patient utilizing Respiratory Care modalities and protocols.
  • Knows and performs role in emergency response and intervention (e.g. Code Blue) situations.
  • Receives, verifies, interprets, and write physicians orders.
  • Collaboratively assesses and develops an educational plan for the patient and family as it relates to Respiratory Care.
  • Maintain confidentiality standards for patients and patient related information.
  • Practices quality management according to standards and guidelines of The Joint Commission, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), AARC, and other applicable regulatory agencies.
  • Keeps current on WMC policies and procedures.
  • Utilizes basic computer applications and software to perform responsibilities.
  • Documents according to WMC policies and procedures, including Respiratory-specific documentation.
  • Maintains Code of Ethics within practice.
  • Appropriately reports occurrences according to WMC risk management guidelines.
  • Follows WMC restraint policy.
  • Delegates tasks appropriately.
  • Develops Respiratory plan of care for patients and collaborates with other disciplines to deliver care in a coordinated manner.
  • Administers medications according to WMC policies and procedures and within scope of practice.
  • Performs arterial punctures in compliance with Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) guidelines and WMC policies and procedures.
  • Adheres to moderate sedation practices as defined by WMC policies and procedures.
  • Interprets test results and follows up appropriately.
  • Transports patients requiring airway support.
  • Participates in care conferences.
  • Practices aseptic technique.
  • Practices proper technique in specimen collection and care.
  • Consistently ensures patient safety through adherence with policies and procedures and maintaining a safe environment.
  • Is involved in education and mentoring of new staff.
  • Actively participates in department in service education and training opportunities.
  • Identifies trends and initiates or facilitates problem solving efforts.
  • Utilizes Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) methodology and tools.
  • Utilizes proper body mechanics.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) is required within 12 months of hire.
  • One year certificate from a college or technical school and at least three months job-related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, is required.
