Physician Assistant / Nurse Practitioner Role Scope


The Colorectal/Acute Care Surgery Advanced Practitioner will work both in an ambulatory setting and perform inpatient hospital rounds to facilitate transition of care from hospital to home. He/she will be responsible for the management of General Surgery patients that have had acute or emergent, as well as elective general and colorectal surgery. Patient management for ambulatory visits will include new patient consults, short and long term post-operative follow up for both Colorectal Surgery and Emergency General Surgery, and coordination of patient care across multiple disciplines. Office triage of emergent and urgent perianal and abdominal issues will be also a part of this position. Complex wound and ostomy care is frequently managed as well. This opportunity will be located at our offices in Hartford. Computer training for electronic medical records will be needed. On call phone coverage from home will be required. Additional responsibilities will include assisting with system quality initiatives, monthly division meetings, maintaining credentialing, and compliance with risk management activities and hospital policies.
Shift: Monday through Friday day shift!

Qualifications

Advanced Practitioner Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant / Nurse Practitioner Master’s program preferred
  • Licensed, or eligible to be licensed, as a Physician Assistant / Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in the state of Connecticut
  • Certification or eligible to be certified as a Physician Assistant, or National Board Certification as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse
  • Previous surgical experience in plastics, general, or colorectal surgery preferred
  • Excellent clinical management skills and proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, as well as demonstrating leadership when appropriate
  • Positive, customer-focused approach, with commitment to providing superior patient care
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills- the ability to communicate in other languages highly desirable
  • Ability to communicate technical information clearly to patients of all ages and abilities
  • Highly organized with demonstrated ability to effectively prioritize competing tasks with full autonomy
  • Knowledge of computer systems, including experience with medical software (EPIC preferred)
  • Ability to adhere to HHCMG policies and standards of service as well as HIPPA requirements, OSHA regulations and Infection Control standards
  • Establish and maintains effective work relationships and an achievement-oriented attitude
  • Display courtesy and helpfulness when interacting with all internal and external customers
  • Exhibit strong personal initiative and take action to achieve goals beyond what is required or assigned
