• Madison, AlabamaJob Duties/Responsibilities:
Responsible for working in a leadership role to build a team atmosphere with the behavioral support assistant and other program staff. This will provide children with a safe and healthy individualized learning environment specific to our exceptional learners. The teacher will guide and coordinate classroom duties; Planning for children's intellectual growth, supporting social and emotional development, providing positive guidance and discipline, and establishing positive relationships with families are requirements of this position. Encouragement of family involvement in the education of their children along with collaboration of behavioral modification plans (if necessary), will ensure a well-run purposeful program responsive to participant's individual needs and maintaining a commitment to professionalism. It is the responsibility of the teacher to work under the direct guidance, direction, and supervision of the Board of Directors affiliated with the school. The teacher is responsible for ensuring classroom data; forms and information are submitted to the appropriate person(s) and entered in the appropriate data base in a timely manner. Required to provide individualized lesson plans aligned with state standards along with report cards every 9 weeks.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Must stay current with software and other technology used to support initiatives and communication skills including but not limited to Microsoft Word & Excel. Have good verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrate ability to assume primary responsibility for planning and implementing the daily program for a group of young children with exceptional needs. Have ability to work well with parents or guardians, as well as provide guidance, encouragement, and on-going monitoring to the classroom. Ability to provide leadership, problem solving skills, and collaborate with co-workers daily. Work with children and families from diverse social, economic, and cultural backgrounds.
Credentials/Experience:
Must be 21 years of age. At least 1-year experience required working as a teacher in school environment. BS in Elementary Education (Highly Qualified preferred). In addition, Special Education degree from college or university is preferred. Alabama Teaching Certification is not required.
Additional Responsibilities:
Other duties may be necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of this position including but not limited to cleaning classrooms & common areas.
Work Relationships and Scope:
Reports directly to the Operational Manager along with the Board of Directors. Works closely with Teacher Assistant, behavioral support staff, children and families.

Working Conditions:
Work is performed in a classroom setting. This position requires sitting, standing, bending, and lifting. Must be able to lift 50lbs. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Employee must have medical clearance from physician.
