Minimum Eligibility Requirements

  • Must be licensed as an LPN in good standing with the state of Mississippi.
  • Must have the ability to apply clinical knowledge and provide nursing care to geriatric residents and/ or hospital patients.
  • Must possess intermediate computer skills.
  • Must have patience, tact, cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as be willing to handle residents based on whatever maturity level they are currently functioning.
  • Must comply with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Must complete annual education requirements.
  • Must adhere to all HIPAA requirements.
  • Must meet all health requirements, including TB.
  • Must pass criminal background check and drug screen.
  • Must be able to perform duties and responsibilities (Essential Job Functions) with or without reasonable accommodation.

Essential Job Functions

  • Perform nursing procedures as outlined by state law.
  • Accurately administers and documents medications as directed by physician orders.
  • Administers treatments according to physician orders and under the direction of the Charge Nurse or House Supervisor.
  • Perform end-of-shift narcotics count with on-coming nurse and ensure timely refill of all prescriptions.
  • Report any and all discrepancies immediately to the Charge Nurse.
  • Participate in report with Charge Nurse/ House Supervisor and other nursing staff at the beginning and end of each shift.
  • Complete assignments as directed by the supervisor timely and accurately.
  • Assists residents/ patients to ensure their cleanliness, grooming, hygiene, oral care, nourishment, rest, activity, mobility, transfer and elimination is performed in a manner conducive to the residents’ safety and comfort in accordance to the residents’ plan of care.
  • Attends the resident care conference and provides pertinent information, if needed.
  • Recognizes and respects the individual emotional, social and cultural needs of residents/ patients including their religious beliefs.
  • Promotes restorative nursing care as directed and instructed for individual residents and/ or patients.
  • Records residents’/ patients’ responses to specific restorative rehabilitation goals as directed by physical therapy and their care plan.
  • Keeps alert to the residents’/ patients’ condition and reports changes in attitudes, appearance, behavior, and physical ability to the charge nurse.
  • Practices conservation of equipment and supplies, keeping them clean and ready for use.
  • Reports any equipment and supply needs to the Charge Nurse/ House Supervisor.
  • Ensures that call bells are within resident’s/ patients’ reach and promptly answers call signals.
  • Anticipates residents’/ patients’ needs and makes rounds routinely to assigned residents/ patients.
  • Keeps written notes of assignments and records pertinent information about the residents/ patients.
  • Maintains and operates equipment safely and correctly.
  • Enters all appropriate resident data in the medical record, timely and accurately.
  • Accountable for maintaining good communications and interpersonal relations with residents/ patients, visitors, physicians and facility employees.
  • Accountable for maintaining a good record of attendance and punctuality.
  • Accountable for following all nursing home and/ or hospital departmental safety policies, rules, and regulations.
  • Conveys information in a concise, accurate and understandable manner.
  • Displays attentiveness, tact and diplomacy in responding to others.
  • Ensures that residents’/ patients’ rights to fair and equitable treatment, self-determination, individuality, privacy, property and civil rights, including the right to wage a complaint, are well established and maintained at all times.
  • Maintains confidentiality of resident/ patient care information to assure their rights are protected.
  • Reports all incidents/ accidents, unsafe and hazardous conditions/ equipment immediately.
  • Maintains work area in a clean, orderly, and safe manner.

Working Conditions (travel, hours, environment)

  • Moves throughout the facility and its premises frequently.
  • Is subject to frequent interruptions.
  • Is involved with residents and/ or patients, family members, personnel, visitors, government agencies/ personnel, etc., under all conditions/ circumstances.
  • Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents and/ or patients, family members, personnel, and visitors.
  • When necessary may need to work beyond normal working hours, on weekends, and on holidays.
  • Is subject to call back during emergency conditions (e.g., severe weather, evacuation, post-disaster, etc.)
  • Attends and participates in continuing educational programs.
  • Is subject to injury from falls, burns from equipment, odors, etc., throughout the work day, as well as reactions from dust, disinfectants, and other air contaminants.

Physical/ Sensory Requirements

Medium Work – Ability to exert 20-50 pounds of force occasionally, and/ or 10-25 pounds of force frequently, and/ or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
