Teche Action Clinic, A Federally Qualified Health Center, per Section 330 of the Public Health Service Act, is currently seeking qualified applicants for the Medical Assistant position in Edgard Louisiana
JOB SUMMARY:
Reports to Nursing Supervisor Site Provider/ and or Laboratory Manager this position is responsible for performing routine waived tests in medical laboratory to provide data for use in diagnosis and treatment of diseases. Drawing blood from patients in Clinic or similar facility for analysis or other medical purposes by collecting specimens, performing and monitoring controls, maintaining logs, reporting and following –up on any discrepancies. JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conducts quantitative and qualitative chemical analyses of body fluids such as blood and urine under supervision of Licensed Health Care Provider or Laboratory Director or Clinical Laboratory Scientist-Generalist.
- Draws blood from patient's finger or vein, observing principles of asepsis to obtain blood samples.
- Specimen collection and storage.
- Verifies and records identity of patient
- Perform and record results of controls
- Performs and reports results of waived tests.
- Perform preventative maintenance on equipment
- Record results of temperature logs, eyewash stations
- Perform proficiency test
- Provide good documentation in patient record /EMR
- Document date/time/patient name/age/Provider/Ins and test(s) ordered on Day Sheet Review Lab requisition for completion
- Transport and log in specimens for LabCorp in a timely manner
- Replenishing supplies
- Document date lab reports received from LabCorp on Daysheet
- Review lab reports in EMR and forward to Provider for review.
-Complete and forward monthly reports to Lab Manager 10th of each month o Daysheet Monthly Report o A1c Report o Panic. Alert Report o LabCorp Request for Information o Cytology follow -up o QC Corrective Action Log
- Ensure and maintain all necessary documentation, reports and forms. 2 JCF/GMW2018
- Reports to Laboratory Manager
- Maintain the strictest confidentiality.
- Other duties as assigned with or without accommodation.
-EOC - Monthly inspection and document the following: o Fire Extinguishers o Exit Lights o Emergency Call Systems (restroom) o Flashlights o Smoke detectors o Filters o Work orders o Fax the following documented Annual Inspection /Drills to EOC Director
- Fire Drill
- Fire Extinguishers Annual inspection
- Fire Marshal Inspection
- Annual Alarm Inspection
- Exceptional interpersonal, organizational, analytical, communication and customer service skills in working with multidisciplinary groups
- The ability to work effectively with a diverse workforce and client base is essential
- Should be flexible, demonstrate self-initiation and possess the ability to work independently yet also effectively participate as part of a team.

Education/Experience:
- Minimum Requirements: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Maximum Requirements: Certificate in Phlebotomist/Medical Assistant from college or technical school; or one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS :
Phlebotomy Certification, National certification Agency Certificate, LA Board of Medical Examiners License
Communication Ability:
Excellent communication skills at level necessary for understanding and relaying instructions to participants and for accurately documenting information Ability to deal tactfully with personnel, patients, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public
Math Ability:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
Computer Skills:
Intermediate proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and the Internet Education/training or work experience in computer basics and data entry a must Skill in utilizing computers, data entry, output, etc. in generating reports Ability to utilize the EHR/PM systems
Professional Skills:
Knowledge of medical terminology Knowledge and experience in the laboratory protocol/procedures Experience with working in multicultural setting Good communications and organizational skills Good phlebotomy skill
