Mālama I Ke Ola Health Center (Community Clinic of Maui) is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) and a fully integrated behavioral health, dental, and primary care system. Our 100+ professionals and providers serve the people of Maui at three clinics—two locations in Wailuku and one in Lahaina. We have behavioral health providers who partner with the primary care clinicians to assist in a vast number of activities including warm handoffs for acute behavioral health crisis management, substance abuse counseling, tobacco cessation counseling, chronic disease self management counseling, and long-term individual and family therapy. In 2015, we served over 11,000 patients of which 97% are living at or below 200% of the Federal poverty level. We will be opening a pharmacy in 2019. Our Pediatric Dentist provides comprehensive and appropriate dental care and treatment to all pediatric patients—routine and emergency dental services, including diagnosis and treatment plans, general restorative procedures, uncomplicated endodontics, minor oral surgery, and hospital OR surgery. The Pediatric Dentists will mentor and supervise Pediatric Dental residents and programs as well as staff as assigned—Dental Assistants and Dental Hygienists.

Essential Job Functions:
- Provide routine and emergency dental services, including diagnosis and treatment plans, general restorative procedures, uncomplicated endodontics and minor oral surgery.
- Initiate and interpret x-ray and lab studies.
- Administer and prescribe anesthetics and medications.
- Refer patients for specialty care to other clinic programs or outside agencies as appropriate.
- Conduct follow-up patient care.
- Provide dental and oral health education to patients and families
- Assist in reviewing clinic productivity, scheduling procedures, and establishing guidelines for care and treatment.
- Teach and train patients and staff on illness prevention.
- Actively participate in community dental programs
- Assist with in-service and on-going training of clinic staff and dental residents.
- Build relationships and foster a high level of customer service.
- Manage difficult clients and patients, demonstrating interpersonal savvy and influence skills.
- Exercise professional judgment in the performance of services provided consistent with the organization’s policies and the standards of the dental profession.
- Demonstrate high degree of knowledge and competency in the practice of dentistry and associated charting requirements in EMR.
- Perform assigned dental tasks using high level of skills and ability.
- Computer and data base proficiency.
- Utilize and monitor effectiveness and efficiency of all equipment and supplies used in the delivery of services.
- Communicate effectively and frequently in verbal and written communication formats.
- Implement and evaluate operational and administrative processes.
- Other duties as assigned by the Dental Director.
The ideal candidate will have:
- A DDS or DMD from an accredited educational institution.
- Completed a Pediatric Dental Residency program or equivalent.
- State of Hawaii current license.
- Ability to be credentialed with the clinic’s health plans, current TB and CPR.
- Demonstrated expertise in relevant dental practices, protocol, trends and best practices in dentistry with at least one (1) year of Pediatric dentistry experience preferred.
- Strong clinical skills and competency in ambulatory care.
- Familiarity with Hawai‘i and its diverse cultures preferred.
- Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and emergency situations successfully.
